Having arrived on 10th, it had been regularly seen somewhere on the Reserve each day since. Today it could be seen preening on the back edge of the Saltmarsh Pool.

The Great White Egret has now been on the Reserve for three and a half months - usually frequenting the saltmarsh bordering the Solway estuary where there have been rich pickings for it. But today (and yesterday too) it has been hunting the wetlands a bit further inland, giving good views from the Reserve...

28 11 12 It had been picking around in the dubs on the saltmarsh as the high tide receeded from the marsh, presumably leaving offerings amongst the rushes for it to glean.

The Reserve has approximately two mile of marshland fronting the estuary. These saltings are regularly tide washed and have a mixture of fine and rough grassland intermixed with gorse and bramble. These cattle are introduced during the Summer months essentially as a grazing tool to control the marshland...
