I would like to introduce myself as the new Visitor Officer at Coombes Valley. My name is Hannah and I'm on an internship with the RSPB for a year. I spent the first seven months at Leighton Moss on the Cumbria/Lancashire border and had a great time up there. It's a very different reserve to Coombes but it's really good to get a contrast.
I've spent my first week here getting to know the reserve - the valley looks gorgeous at this time of year and I've seen flocks of fieldfares, redwings, long tailed tits and a few redpoll. I also went to Trentham Monkey Forest at the weekend for the BBC Live'n'Deadly event. We had great fun dissecting owl pellets, making bird of prey darts and IDing moths. Hopefully we'll see lots of you back here for our Deadly Scene Investigation on 19 and 20 November when you can put your detective skills to the test and solve our wildlife mystery.
I hope to meet as many of you as possible over the coming months either at the reserve or out and about around the area.
