Phil the Phriendly Pheasant

Clough Meadow is home to Phil the Pheasant and he is quite a character. His hobbies include chasing vehicles, running in front of vehicles, escorting visitors around his home and asking for food! We first noticed Phil running in front of the Ranger 4x4 vehicle, but he now does it to the ATV and any other vehicle on site. We think the reason that he does it is because he has been previously fed by such machines, but he has now taken to following visitors and volunteers on-foot around the site. He can be seen moving about the meadow, reminiscent of dinosaurs from Jurassic Park in his phil-ociraptor style! Hi emerald head and red cheeks are visible from a fair distance and he just may want to escort you around his territory. If you’re planning a visit to Coombes Valley, please visit the Clough Meadow part of the reserve to get a chance of seeing Phil. Be sure to say hello, but we would request that visitors do not feed him – he is a wild bird!

  • Nice photo, wonder who took that? ;-) Glad Phil is still doing well!
