Good evening! Let's choose to ignore the weatherman - they've been wrong so many days lately, why not for this weekend too?!
I thought that I'd share a few good reasons to come to visit this weekend.....
If you make it over to see us tomorrow, you might see the black tern which has been hanging around for an almost unheard of 3 days now! I've probably guaranteed it will leave by saying that now ofcourse, but here's what you could see....
Ian Butler caught this picture of the tern which is still in fairly dark breeding plumage. It's been a treat watching it fishing and picking up insects from the surface of the water. It's so busy and hardly stops for a rest. It must have found something to it's liking at Old Moor and is feeding up to continue it's journey south. Thanks for the pic Ian!
Another lovely bird which Bert reported for you again today, was the osprey that is in the area at the moment. It may well fly over again this weekend, so keep your eyes on the skies!
Ian Butler manged to get this picture of the bird today as it flew over the Mere and Wath Ings, sending all the waders up in a panic! From the look of the pale fringes to it's feathers, it's a juvenile. We've zoomed the picture in and can't see any rings on it's legs sadly.
There are loads of other fab things to see ofcourse, as Bert has been telling you about in his daily blogs.
Another great idea for something to do would be to try your hand at sun gazing on Sunday. All we need are a few gaps in the clouds and the guys from Mexborough & Swinton Astronomical Society will let you have a 'gaze' through their solar telescopes....
Drop in any time and you can see sun spots, solar winds and other fascinating stuff! The Astronomers are great at explaining what it is you're looking at and what it's all about in a way that even I can understand!! Believe me, even the popular and people friendly Prof Brian Cox makes my head hurt, so that's no mean feat :D
So a few things to whet your appetite there. Talking of which, remember the fab cafe!! If there are a few showers, what better way to avoid them for a while than to have lunch, or a cuppa and cake?! Remember; it's for charity, so you're eating it for a good cause!
:)
