Hello readers :-)

Welcome to today's news from the Dearne Valley ..

Well  .. From my spare room to be more precise but you get the idea ..

So ..

Old Moor to begin ..

On Green Lane were .. a weasel, a wren and goldcrests .. A flock of 29 blackbirds flew over the Visitor Centre too .. Quite possibly migrants as there are plenty flooding over at the moment ...

On the Wader Scrape were a ruff, a ringed plover, 2 greylag geese, 6 cormorants, a sparrowhawk and a great surprise for any early visitors as there were 2 short-eared owls in the scrub in front of the hide !! These guys have been hanging around various areas so it was nice to see that they had decided to pay us a visit .. I was going to say a 'flying visit' but decided not to ;-)

Wath Ings had c1500 golden plovers, a redshank and 2 snipe ..

There were 2 'redhead' goosanders on the Mere along with 4 common gulls and 2 lesser black-backed gulls ..

Over on the Field Pool were a kestrel, a grey heron, long-tailed tits, mistle thrushes, little grebes and one of the Old Moor volunteers saw a spotted redshank too ...

Reported from the Tree Sparrow Farm were tree sparrows, greenfinches, and 6 redwings ..

Ducks reported were mallards, gadwalls, shovelers, wigeons, teals and tufted ducks .. Obviously these can be seen in various areas ...

Insects seen through the mist were migrant hawker dragonflies and common carder bumblebees ...

A final report was from Bolton Ings where there were oystercatchers, a green woodpecker, a great spotted woodpecker, 5 mistle thrushes, song thrushes and a pair of bullfinches ...

There .. All done ...

See you again tomorrow friends :-)

Have a nice evening everyone !!
