Spoonbill....A good day...
Mary
It has been a good day so far at Dungeness with a spoonbill at Denge Marsh until 3pm when it headed towards ARC pit. Plus two bitterns seen directly from Denge Marsh hide regularly and a third seen flying towards Hooker's pits. Some winter birds are still here (smew - 8 redheads and two drakes) but...

Blustery day
Mary
It has been a blustery day here at Dungeness, so many birds are taking shelter. However, there have still been good views of marsh harriers, smew, goldeneye and great white egrets on Burrowes pit. A solitary black-tailed godwit was spotted at the far end of ARC but otherwise little in the way of migrants...

Highlight of the day
Mary
The highlight today has been some sunshine and a brief sighting of two penduline tits this morning in the reeds by the small lake just a 100 yards from the visitor centre. Little ringed plovers have also been seen today at ARC and south of springfield bridge. We are running an Easter trail for families...

Spring may have arrived...
Mary
Spring may have arrived despite the bitterly cold winds as the first common tern was seen flying over the reserve yesterday and the first wheatear seen along the access track on 24th. Four avocets spent a couple of days on Burrowes pit giving good views to those staying in the visitor centre out of the...

Beans are back...
Chris Hawkins
Having gone missing for a while, five bean geese seem to be back with us. They were seen from the Hooker's pits viewing ramp today. Smew numbers are still in double figures, a female goosander was on Burrowes pit on Tuesday and a red-crested pochard on the ARC pit on Wednesday. There are plenty of...

A good day...
Chris Hawkins
Anyone who has spent time peering across the Boulderwall fields over the past couple of weeks hoping for a glimpse of our tundra bean geese might be miffed to know that they were floating around on the water on Denge Marsh yesterday morning - in full view of the hide. A good start to my day off, especially...

Latest sightings ...
Heather Chantler
After a rather damp start this morning, the sun is now trying to shine through the clouds - I can even see a little blue sky through the window. There are a good few birds around today as well; 20+ Barnacle geese feeding in the fields near Boulderwall Farm, Curlew and Great White Egret around the trail...

A jolly fine few days....
Chris Hawkins
First off all, many apologies for no recent posts - computer problems again. Anyway, here's a quick summary of what's been happening over the past few days. An excellent few days birding began on Thursday afternoon with the arrival of four bean geese in the fields to the right of the track as...

Star birds turn up just in time for weekend...
Chris Hawkins
We received some exciting news late this afternoon as a visitor came in to report two penduline tits on Denge Marsh. Thank you! They were seen from the Springfield Bridge in a thin strip of reeds between there and the Denge Marsh hide. Hoping they'll still be there tomorrow. Elsewhere on the reserve...
