I had only been going to the reserve for a year or so and found Gordon's help and assistance invaluable and im sure he will be sorely missed by us all
A great loss to the community. I'm sure everyone will join me in offering sincere condolences to his family and those who knew him well.

i enjoyed reading his posts in which his love of nature and sense of fun shone through. sadly i didnt meet him as we tend to keep ourselves to ourselves when we go birdwatching, although i no doubt benefitted from the information he shared. condolences to his family and work colleagues.

I'm in tears typing this. Unbelievable, dreadful news.
I've only been birding a year and my very regular visits to Elmley have nearly aways brought me into contact with Gordon. It was he who sought me out and led me to see the Long Eared Owl last July. I'd heard it was there and mentioned to him I'd love to see one. A couple of hours later Gordon came looking for me so I could see it. I joined the RSPB as a result of that kindness.
We stood many times, along with Steve, watching those five Barn Owlets being brought up by their adults last summer.
A dreadful shock and a dreadful loss.
R.I.P Gordon.

Please ignore the warning signs on my cage, you can feed the Yeti.
What terribly sad news. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
psst, want to see my blog? http://robandmazza.blogspot.com
Indeed awful news and I'm saddened to hear of it. He will be greatly missed by all in the local community and within conservation circles, espically in kent, where his heart and sole will still remain
OMG, I have just got home, and as usual logged on to Elmley forum to see what has been going on, and to check the latest posts/blogs by Gordon I enjoy them so much. I am so saddened to hear this devastating news about Gordon. I never met Gordon, but was so looking forward to seeing him at the reserve one day, I have heard so much good things about him, and he was so full of information on the reserve. So sorry about the loss of a great reserve warden, and also for the reserve staff he has left behind. My thoughts are also with Gordon's family and friends, rest in peace Gordon.

Sad and terrible news. Elmley will not be the same without Gordon.
Gordon was always willing to help out with any ID as his knowledge was second to none and the well being of the wildlife was Gordon's main concern.
We will all miss Gordon's skills , knowledge and blogs.
Deepest condolences to Gordon's family.
John.
I have to confess to being somewhat in shock at this dreadfully sad news, Gordon was a man that I admired greatly and looked up to, and as many of you have said - he will be sorely missed.
Deepest Sympathy to the Family

Always let your conscience be your guide
Like others here I'm totally stunned and shocked at this sad news.
I always used to see Gordon out and about working and spent several memorable summer evenings chatting with him when he came into the hide whilst doing his rounds checking the cows and the reserve. His knowledge of birds and wildlife in general will be a great loss to us all.
My deepest sympathy go to his family and friends.
Gary.
A very sad day indeed Gaz
