We heard a booming bittern at Ham Wall last week and two grunting bitterns (one of which probably the boomer). I mentioned this in the last Recent Sightings blog on Friday. We are interested to hear from any visitors who have heard bitterns during their visits to Ham Wall recently and those you hear over the next few weeks. I have started a Forum Post also entitled 'Boom Boom' for you to submit any info of interest. A time and as accurate location as possible would be helpful.

Well, the ice did seem to thaw briefly on Monday at Ham Wall which has spread the groups of ducks out a little - but it's still tough out there for them. Bitterns have been sighted within Waltons and in front of the first viewing platfrom over the last couple of days, so worth scanning the area.
Good views of Male & Female Marsh Harrier also as well as great views of Great White Egret. Up to 8 were reported in front of Noah's Hide at Shapwick at the weekend and a Crane - not that I want big up our friends at Natural England across the road too much you understand.
Wont write too much more now or I will exhaust my sightings for the Blog on Friday. But despite the cold there is still plenty to see.
Hope to hear from you about Booming bitterns soon.
