Cynthia Lawrence from Trefonen, near Oswestry, has received the RSPB’s five year Swallow badge for volunteering at RSPB Lake Vyrnwy.
The badge is given to volunteers in recognition for their support and invaluable help after five years of volunteering with the charity
Mike Walker, RSPB Lake Vyrnwy reserve manager said: “Cynthia’s positive and cheerful manner has been an asset to our team here on the reserve, we are very fortunate that she found us and chooses to give her time to help our work on the reserve.”
Cynthia volunteers in the shop at RSPB Lake Vyrnwy in mid Wales after an impulsive visit to the reserve in 2006. She fell in love with the area and the reserve, which led to her offering her help and services.
Lucinda Barfoot, Shop Manager at RSPB Lake Vyrnwy said: “As well as helping in the shop Cynthia also helps to organise events such as our Christmas Santa's Grotto and our Halloween Night - her eye for detail is spot-on and her ideas for the shop displays always have the WOW factor.”
Cynthia said: "Being a volunteer is brilliant. I enjoy working with people and thrive in a busy environment - it keeps my mind and body active. It's great fun working with the staff at the reserve; the team here are really friendly and every day is enjoyable and very rewarding.”
