Too much water in the lake and the dam overflows. That's why it has arches. The water people control it carefully by monitoring and releasing, in order to keep the river level fairly constant and also to minimise damage to the fabric of the dam. But sometimes there is just too much. It's quite unusual to see overflow at the ends of the dam, as in today's photo - normally it's all between the towers. It really has been wet this week.
