Loch Garten ospreys

Love the Loch Garten ospreys? Tell us all about it!

Not much to report.....

Loch Garten osprey diary

The ospreys at Loch Garten have people across the world gripped in their tale of violence, adultery and... well... fishing.

Not much to report.....

Just downloaded the latest data and it shows Rothes to be pretty much in the same locality as previously. The most recent fix of her position was at 10am this morning (Sunday 16th August) and she had just moved across to the other side of the La Gironde river, still north of Bordeaux.  I haven't up-dated the map but will check on her progress and position tomorrow.

All other birds, still with us today here at Loch Garten.

  • Thanks you Richard for taking the time. Glad to hear all still here haven't seen Odin for a couple of days

  • maybe she'll rest up for a couple of days

  • Thanks for that Richard. It looks like a good place for an osprey to be.

  • Thanks Richard.  Go and Have some of the red stuff!!  Just do what you can whenever..

  • Rothes has picked a great place for a stop over. Visited the area as a spotty teenager many moons ago when I had a French penpal!!!!

  • Thanks, Richard.  At least she's having a bit of a Sunday rest after all that travelling.

Both girls on the nest at present, still looking around for Mum and wondering about dinner.....

  • Great news,Richard ... thanks. Glad to hear she is resting and presumably fishing for herself ... or learning how to!

  • She probably thinks shes in Africa already as it is sooo hot here 36/37 deg.....To hot for flying and everyone is out on the river today fishing !!! Sensible girl.....Think the odd slurp of vino would do her good too!!!

  • Thanks for all your updates very welcome.  Just to tell you that when driving home from Elgin around 5.30 yesterday (Sauturday) going to Findhorn on the way home to give my dog a run on the beach, I spotted an osprey heading SE above Culbin forest & sands.  Could that have been one of the Moray osprey?

  • Looks like she's being sensible and taking it easy and practising her fishing skills and stocking up.  Let's hope so.  It seems so strange to read her update and then still see her two sisters being fed and sitting toether on the nest in LG!! :o)  x

  • thanks for the heads up Soosin (re this new blog.)

Thank you Richard for the update. It's all good input

Sandy: Well, OK. but you do need to UNtick the boxes next to (if you have them) Deshar. Nethy. Mallachie. Mull Eagles. And anything other than Rothes and then click on Rothes to 'highlight' the name.

I suggest if you've been fiddling with GE awhile that you close it down and reopen it and then do the above. And then try the tiny forward arrow again ( keep checking it's Rothes that is 'highlighted'). It will go to Scotland and whizz round quite a bit as Rothes was taking her mental maps of the area aroung LG but then it sets off the way she flew on migration. Try again and let me know how you get on.

  • Good evening everyone, thanks Richard for update. At least she is having a deseerved rest before the next stage of her journey.

Mallachie on nest at the moment just being Mallachie!!  Looking round, looking in the nest at something - is she wishing it was a fish!!!!!!!!

  • Susan Warne: oh fortunate you. How I would like to 'spot an Osprey' heading anywhere in my direction!

Off to watch Poirot now - will keep popping back here.

  • Morning all. Thank you Paula for that nice gesture. See my entry.

Can't spend time here now - just updated Google Earth and followed Rothes all the way to latest point. What an adventure.

GOOGLE EARTH QUESTIONS: Any tips anyone?

I tried (in the Touring dialog box) to slow down/speed up the tour - it didn't seem to make a difference. (This while the tour was playing and paused).

I also tried to change the angle of the camera, and some other options, but didn't notice any difference there either.

Are the settings for these particular items pre-set?

Gotta go shop for plants today. Back later!

  • Sounds like Rothes may be taking a well earned rest and I am glad she is!!

Hopefully, she will hone her fishing skills here, before she moves on again, as she has a lot of time, being so early off the mark.
