Loch Garten osprey diary

The ospreys at Loch Garten have people across the world gripped in their tale of violence, adultery and... well... fishing.

Morning folks.

Some people have been saying they're a bit unhappy about the general conversation content that is appearing on the osprey blog comments. Can I therefore encourage you to make use of the group forum as well, where you can talk about other things as well as the Loch Garten ospreys, and where you can share your thoughts, information and stories  The link is:

http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/groups/lochgartenospreys/

With that in mind, can I also add that whilst we are overwhelmed with joy at how many comments the osprey blog gets, unfortunately we simply cannot always find time to read them all, along with all else we have to do.  So bear with us please, if we do not spot and answer questions in the comments.

If you were to use the group forum for more general conversation amongst yoursleves, and if the blog comments were confined to just that - comments and questions, then it would help us manage the time to read as many as we can and spot the questions many of you are asking.  Your help with this would be appreciated.  Many thanks.

An up-date on Rothes and Mallachie will follow later today.

  • Great to have the webcam picture back up Richard.  Thank you, and thank you for the update on Rothes and Mallachie.  I am glad to see they are both taking things slowly.  Hope Dr Jones and his team are able to spot Rothes at some point and I am sure lots of folk are on the lookout for Mallachie.  Pru

  • Thank, you Richard for your good advice

  • Thank you Richard.

  • Thank you Richard, especially for pointing out that this is the forum where you find questions and post answers to us and that reading through all the hundreds of posts is time consuming for you and your team.

I look forward to seeing where Mallachie is next as she seems to be searching for a good place to fish before she sets off to Africa. Seems to be a bit picky like (a northeast expression)!

  • Oh and I have reported that September entries are not showing up when in the archives at the top left.

  • Hear hear Richard.  It would be good to keep at least this page fairly focused - within reason. No-one minds the odd diversion/cross reference but please let's remember why we're here.

  • Thank you for the guidance Richard.

Looking forward to finding out where our girls have got to later on.

  • Richard

Hope you can answer this if you see it,been meaning to ask this see when you were ringing and tagging the chicks or any osprey as I see photos on Roy Dennis's site also  I notice you do not wear gloves when holding them for the photos does that therefore mean that they do not try and peck you and stick their talons in you as much as I envy you holding one of these fabulous birds I don't fancy being on the recieving end of that beak

  • Thank you Richard - Let's hope it will all settle down now. Hope Mallachie hasn't moved too far south - the weather here is terrible.

  • Thanks for that Richard. Looking forward to the update on Rothes and Mallachie.

  • Thanks for your advice and pouring oil on troubled waters. We have decided that we will have general chit-chat, weekly, on DU Page.~(:o)

  • Do you know what  I won't be bothering,  But unlike some, whilst I'm throwing my rattle out the pram, I WON'T be cancellling my membership at the same time

The success of this blog is quite unbelievable and it has served well for years but now its too big and just because at the end of the season there's a bit of nonsense goes on, people become so righteous it s incredible.

Yes the RSPB made a seperate group, but  the people that use it most are the ones that have caused the strife.

    Anyway happy intelligent talking

  • Maureen go to your page please.

  • Thank you Richard looking forward to update on Rothes and Mallachie

  • Soosin, I agree with your comments. I have only been blogging since June and will have to try to work out where the other place is Richard says to write things. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading others nature news and general talk about visits etc. and what people are up to. I feel a bit like Richard has told us all off. I can understand that it takes the LG team along time to work through all the comments and can see their point of view, but it is a shame if some members have complained taking away some of the enjoyment out of this particular site especially for others who may be elderly or live alone.

I was going to say, good to see the nest again and the ghost parrot but better not.

Look forward to tracking report, have my atlas ready.
