Well the data is updated, and neither Mallachie or Rothes have ventured very far in the last 24 hours.
Rothes spent most of yesterday afternoon over the waters of La Gironde before returning to her favoured spot to roost. As of 10am this morning (17th) that's where she still was. I don't know what the weather is like in France, but if it's anything like what we're getting here at Abernethy at the moment I wouldn't move on either.
Meanwhile Mallachie stayed at the reservoir north of Zebreira until after 4pm yesterday, and then returned to the one near Ladoeiro to roost. At 8am this morning she headed back up and as of 1pm today she was at that same reservoir north of Zebreira.
More tomorrow.
Thankyou Alice, most grateful for another update so soon. Every day without news is torture - the sighs of relief when your updates appear would blow the leaves off the trees!
Thanks Alice. Guess this could go on for a while. Who will move first?
Thank you Alice:)
And thanks from me too! I think the weather has turned cooler and more cloudy on the Gironde area. Just checked the meteo and rain forecast for the next couple of days. Mind you, I think they desperately need the rain.
Thanks Alice ... great to get an update so soon ... more of the same kind of news please :) I dread the day when they start to move again!
M T Nesta ... welcome to you.
Thanks Alice, I hope the weather lasts over the weekend at least. Its a holiday weekend here in Ayrshire so it would be nice and if it continues to stay dry and calm perhaps the leaves will have time to change before falling from the trees. A whole autumn like this would be superb. Alas!
Many thanks Alice. I did a bit of digging on the internet and found a nice photo of the lake that Mallachie keeps going to. According to Google Earth there's a little jetty at the end she goes to and it's shown in this photo - I can imagine her sitting there eating her fish! The link is at www.geocaching.com/.../cache_details.aspx
Thanks Alice. They are both obviously finding lots of fish. I wonder what will trigger their next move.
Thanks for the update Alice and thanks Sheryl, it looks a very picturesque spot and the fishing must be good. for her to keep returning there.
Thanks for the update Alice telling us all is well. I think they will both make a move soon but we have been proved wrong before with this family and their offspring. Both of them must be nicely rounded with all the fish they are catching, no wonder they haven't gone yet.
Sheryl thanks for the link it looks so nice there no wonder Mallachie has stayed here for a while.
Thank you Alice for my daily osprey fix. The lack of movement must mean they are feeding themselves up before they move on - I just want them past the Sahara.
Liiby those are my thoughts as well I too want them past the Sahara.
building themselves up, as they surely must be, can only bode well for the distance they have ahead of them. All good so far
Hello Alice,
We took a look today around the area where Rothes is roosting - it's hard to get close to the actual spot without trespassing & we were a bit wary as it's the hunting season. There are quite a few suitable roosting trees & we checked out those that we could get close to. We also spent a lot of time at Port Maubert, the closest bit of river, but also travelled down via the river road from Mortagne & back, keeping our eyes peeled - lots of gulls & buzzards but no ospreys.
Despite rain overnight, the weather today has been lovely. It's not looking good for the weekend however, so she may decide to move on soon.
