Depending which direction Mallachie heads in next, she'll soon be into Western Sahara or Mauritania (or probably already is). I've entered the data and the latest point I have for her was 6am this morning (14th). She was close to Tindouf in Algeria close to the border with Western Sahara and Mauritania. I'm sure over the course of today she's progressed further. Over the course of yesterday she headed SW - so slightly out towards the coast - a good thing I think. I'll update again tomorrow.
Rothes meanwhile had a relaxing day yesterday (I assume), spending most of the day on Ilha de Carache, then heading onto Ilha Caravela to roost. The latest point I have for her was 6am this morning when she was on Ilha Caravela.
Here at Abernethy, the water is working again - no frog was found, though I'm not ruling it out as the problem! Fortunately the entire pipe didn't need to be dug up (100s of m long), which was a relief for everyone.
More tomorrow.
Brilliant. Thanks again You're SO good to keep us updated!
Thanks once again Alice. Glad you have water again and no frogs detected. It is good that Mallachie is heading more SW in the right direction for the coast. Rothes is giving a whole new meaning to island hopping. All good news.
FAB
Thank you Alice. As Annette says, thanks for keeping us updated so well.
So pleased Mallachie is heading a bit more towards the coast.
Thanks for the good news about Rothes and Mallachie ... and great news that your water problem is sorted!
My husband has set the computer so that everytime I put the internet on, it goes straight into this site and I cannot wait for the updates each day.
I am so pleased on both their journeys to Africa that when one of them moved on, the other was settled for a while, it gave us a while to keep focused on ones safe journey at a time, well done girls.
Pleased that Roy's birds are all continuing to do well as well. One of the American youngsters flew north of their nest on the mainland visiting many large ponds and either died or lost it's transmitter. They seem to fly for ages over the sea sometimes straight out across the sea instead of down the coast to Florida!
Iv'e been enjoying checking the blogs as have spent alot of time off work in the last 4 weeks trying to get rid of a cold/pleurisy (not sure how to spell it) and bronchitus, hope to get back to normal next week.
ALICE-is Richard ok, not heard from him for a while?
JILLIAN
Thanks Alice you are really spoiling us. Look forward to the update all through the day. Good that Mallachie has altered a direction just a liitle. Rothes is still island hopping but she will move on when ready I am sure. Just glad that do far everything is fine.
Jillian sorry you have been ill and hope you are soon feeling fit and well again.
Great update Alice. Went to bed last night just wishing Mallachie would veer SW to avoid the vast expanse of the Sahara she was headed for. Bless her she must have felt us all rooting for her to do that. :o) Rothes seems to be having a great time amongst the islands. Bless her too - feel she's getting a lot of different experiences on her first migration as indeed is Mallachie. x
Thanks Alice. Nice to hear Mallachie is heading towards the coast. We wouldn't want her to get lost in the sand dunes!!!
Glad your plumbing problem has been sorted out, could have been a lot worse!
Thanks Alice! I really look forward to the update! So glad they are both OK!
here is fame!!! news.bbc.co.uk/.../8305224.stm
Thanks once again, Alice. Pleased the water is sorted - and no frog in trouble!
Good to hear that Mallachie is further west and not heading into the worst of the Sahara.
It's good that Rothes is getting plenty of exercise island-hopping - shows she must be well fed to have the energy for it, and good for her muscle tone too.
Alice, can't thank you enough for these daily updates. Glad to see Mallachie has turned a little nearer to the coastline and certainly envy Rothes island hopping.
So glad your water supply is back to normal.
Thanks for update Alice so pleased both are doing well .
