Well Rothes and Mallachie have stuck with where they were for the last 24 hours or so. As of 11am this morning (30th) Rothes was still near Varela, and Mallachie was between Jareng Tenda and Dasilami (latest point 10am this morning).
Tomorrow is the 31st of October - so the last day we will get hourly data. I'll update again on Monday, but I won't get any of November's data until a week has gone by (I don't think). I'll check every day until I know for sure what day the data becomes available - so you guys will get it as soon as possible.
Enjoy your trick or treating tomorrow and if you are coming to Sunday's Goose Roost Watch at Loch Garten (4-5pm) I'll see you there.
Have a nice weekend.
Sounds nice and settled - here we go for a winter of weekly updates hopefully. The Goose Roost sounds fun although I originally read it as Goose "Roast". LOL. No no surely not................
Thanks, Alice ... sounds like they might be settling down for the winter ... just in time for our change to weekly updates! Enjoy your Goose Roost Watch on Sunday.
As October comes to an end it is good to know that R & M are settled in good areas. It will be hard to get used to the weekly updates but we will cope. Have a fantastic weekend and good luck with the Goose Roost Watch.
Thanks Alice. Great news as always
Thanks also for the reminder about the change in data you receive.
Hope the Goose Roost goes well
Well Alice it looks as if they are definitely settling down. They couldn't wander for the whole of the winter!! Wish I was nearer as would love to come to Goose Watch - only 500+ miles away!! Look forward to the weekly updates now - hopefully from the same localities. Have fun on Sunday. x
Thank you for the update Alice. Good to know our birds are doing well and long may it continue. Looking forward to the Goose Roost on Sunday (hope the weather is kinder to us than last year) and that lots of geese coming flying overhead. See you there. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks Alice!! It looks like this was a successful migration. Whew! With Rothes and Mallachie making uneventful migrations I feel certain Garten is also fine. They all had a wonderful start in life . EJ & Odin fed them until they couldn't eat another bite. An both parents were on guard to protect them every minute.
I hope in a couple of years someone sees Garten, but according to Roy Dennis's book the females don't generally return close to the area their brood nest to start breeding. He says males return much closer to their brood nest to start families than females do . Of course EJ's offspring never go by the book LOL
Thanks for all you do for the Ospreys and their fans.
Barbara in the USA
One other thought.
Little Mallachie has certainly done well now that she found her wings.
She was the bottom of the pecking order to eat. She was the last to fledge because she was afraid to let go of the branch she was holding onto. After the others left she sat alone on the nest waiting for them to return and finally she was the last to leave on her migration. She has clearly learned to fish and has flown successfully 500 miles away to a winter home. What these birds do at 4-5 months old is nothing short of a miracle
Many thanks Alice. And yes, Barbara Jean, Precious Mallachie has done very well indeed hasn't she. Wonderful girl.
Thank you so much Alice. So, we have to get used to weekly news. Seems impossible at the moment but we'll manage! If I remember last year correctly we got used to it and in no time at all EJ was suddenly back and the rollercoaster started.... So good to see the girls seem settled; I feel sure Garten is there with them.
Once again thanks for update Alice. It looks as if the girls are settling down for the time being. Have a good weekend yourself.
Once again Alice thanks for the update and thanks for all the updated delivered to us through the season.l It looks as though Mallachie and Rothers are settling down nicely for the winter but how I am going to miss the daily updates. Rothes and Mallachie have been wonderful in their first migration and I still find it so hard to comprehend that the did this for the first time seeming to know just where they were going. I am sure Garten being the feisty little chick she was will have been successful. We have been so lucky this year with the EJ and Odin being the wonderful parents they were. Long may they reign at Loch Garten and looking forward to next year so much.
Thanks for the update, Alice. I hope Rothes and Mallachie have indeed decided on their permanant homes for the next couple of years and that they stay safe and well until they return to Scotland as breeding adults. We shall all miss the daily updates but will be waiting with baited breath for the 'weeklies', I'm sure!
Many thanks for keeping us informed of their whereabouts so far - you're a star!
Thanks Alice for what will be one of the last of the daily updates.
I have missed the last few updates as I have been away, so was relieved to see all is still well with our precious sisters :)
They both look to be in ideal situations for their next few years and it is amazing how they have reached there!!
I hope you have a great day on Sunday and that lots of geese turn up for you all....wish I could be there but Central Southern England is a bit too far to come.
Thank you Alice for all your updates and information. I still check on the girls' progress every day, and read the blogs. It will seem strange just having a weekly "fix", but it is wonderful to have that! It seems incredible that we can follow R and M's progress, and so good that all has gone well so far. As others have said - just amazing birds!
Hope the goose roost went well and you had better weather than we did down south.
