I contacted the observer of the Osprey seen at Conchemarche, Chenac St Seurin d'Uzet on the 29 April & he said that it flew slowly over the lagoons for about 10 minutes looking for fish & continuing on its route towards the North. He only had views if the underside so couldn't say whether it had a transmitter or no. It passed around 17h30.
With 3 other observations of Osprey in the département on the 26 & 27 April & 1 May it could be part of a wave of migrating Ospreys coming through.

Interestingly, I've looked back to our observations in 2009 when Rothes first flew south as a youngster (although we'd not heard of him at the time). All obsevations are at the lagoons at Mortagne sur gironde about 5km upriver of Port Maubert. We saw 1 on a post on the 19/9 then 2 on the 20/9 (took photos but poor quality) & 2 on the 22/9.No more observations after that. As Rothes left on the morning of the 24/9 perhaps he has met up with other migrating Ospreys & went off with them. It sounds likely doesn't it? Perhaps this puts another piece in the Jigsaw.
I've just read the sad news of Rothes...looks like he/she never left on migration after all, RIP little one.. all our hopes are now dashed it such a shame. :'(

Such sad news about Rothes,always hoped for a good outcome,but looks like not to be.
Just heard the sad news of Rothes but perhaps her visit of last year will have a good outcome with the building of a nesting plateform for Ospreys in this area of France. I'm working on it!

Yes very sad news indeed. We will now never know for certain whether Rothes was female or male. One of the things I was looking forward to finding out.

I have asked John, on the blog, if we can have more information on Rothes' last signals, to try to understand what has happened. It appeared to us the island was idyllic, so the shock of the news, is more difficult to take in, since I imagined that the location was relatively safe.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. I agree with CHLOE that it is also a shame we will never know the sex of this bird, having watched his/her progress for so long.
