"There were fears for our Osprey chicks given the severity of the weather yesterday, but CCTV confirms all is well with them"
Alan - Can you answer this from other nests. Mary GK brought it to my attention. Last two years Tweed Valley have ringed with Darvik on R Leg - When I e mailed them last season they said they did not know and would contact the ringer but never got back.
I thought it was agrred especially this season as was the general with a few exceptions that this year all UK Birds would be Blue with Scotland Left Leg and England/Wales Right Leg.
I thank MaryGK for bringing it to my attention as I overlooked it this year. Do you have any answers.
Keith : This is very interesting. The only reason I can think of is that Tony Lightley may belong to an English ringing group based in Northumberland perhaps hence the rings being on the right leg.
Thanks Alan - I will see if they respond to an e mail but if you hear anything let me know.
Strange you should mention Tony Lightley, there's a picture of him in The Guardian online today, in their Week in Wildlife gallery (Environment section), replacing an osprey chick after ringing in the Scottish Borders.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Thanks Rach for this info, not sure if this link will work or not as it is rather long.
Good it does work, great photo of Tony replacing the Osprey chick in the nest, wonder how it was taken, maybe a clever photographer climbed an ajacent tree with a rather long lens, just speculating like you do LOL....
Rothiemurchus Red 8T
He had to avoid sharp talons, beaks and beating wings in order to retrieve several young chicks so they could be ringed
I take it these Ospreys did not lie flat in the nest.
I know chick #1 was agressive to the other two but would this really happen. I suppose all nests are different.
Hello everyone - watching Estonia earlier and I feared for little one but, thank goodness, ten minutes later captured another pic which is much more hopeful he/she is having such a struggle I can hardly bear to watch!
My photos here (eventually)
Then I went to finland and look what I found - was so excited I forgot to enlarge it first!!

Mummy back now keeping them safe - must find out names - although I can't speak Finnish!!

Alan - good afternoon to you - is there any way I can go back on previous postings to enter the copywright details?
