ALAN PETRIE Site B chicks ringed here
Thanks Alan, great news that another trio of young ospreys will soon be flying around Site B. As to the ring numbers, I give up!
Sunny and breezy start to the day Chicks resting Mrs standing not doing anything in particular
ALL - Can any one help me which is the speculated female and two males out of IF, 2F and 3F at nest B.
Next question - Busy with RW this morning - Where is the origin of 2010 chicks numbers 24(10) seen at Arlington and 25(10) possible sighting at the reserve on 28/6/2012. RW still to confirm if this was 25 or 26.
Are these from nests K or O or other which are only sometimes reported.
Keith : 1F and 3F are male and 2F is female. 24(10) and 25(10) are from nests K or O.
Keith 24(10) is from site O, this was reported when she was originally seen near Plymouth on her first Migration south. There were two other young from site O that year & one from another unnamed nest (siteK??).
Footage of one of the MB young regurgitating a pellet here.
Thanks Sandy, that is something else to see that!!! The look on the other chicks face is funny, like its saying "what on earth are you doing"....

Sandy Had a great visit to RW this afternoon. The reservoir is now about 105% full and has breached the bunds that separate both Manton and Heron Bays from the main body of the reservoir. This means that the water level in MB can no longer be controlled (more anon about the consequences of this). Soon after I arrived both adults started to alarm call and 3 intruders arrived! 5R eventually gave chase and spent the next hour or so pursuing the intruders at some distance. One of the intruders only turned up last Wednesday and has yet to be identified! It has to be possible that it is one of the 2010 young from the MB nest.

It looks likely that the returning 2 year old that we saw last Sunday was 30(10).
The MB chicks will have to be ringed sooner rather than later but the high water level is going to pose problems to that effect. They'll need a calm day to carry it out as the mooring posts they use to anchor the boat are now well under the surface!
Nest pole on 25th August 2011 with mooring posts clearly visible (one of last year's juves on the fallen poplar tree):
. . . and last Sunday. Both the mooring posts and the branch where the juve was are now underwater!:

Another intruder. Probably a Scottish unringed female here
