One of the chicks was helping Mrs to maintain the barricade and the other laying down trying not to get involved Then the one who was helping starts vigourously wing exercising whist the other makes do with a stretch whilst still resting
The "lazy" one got up for a poop and nibbled at a couple of sticks Now both .......preening
MB chicks successfully ringed this morning: https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=385266968194075&set=a.343429965711109.84487.324266140960825&type=1&theater
If they got a complete consecutive run of rings this year, that should mean 4 chicks between the other 2 nests (sites N & K?)
EDIT: it will be interesting to see what sex they are. 5R tends to father sons (5/6 so far...)
Hi All - just visited MB and was intrigued by their behaviour - looking intently at something to left of nest with lots of head waggling - just read Chloe post about ringing - were they still around???
My photos here (eventually)
Thanks Rachel Brief report....probably more on the blog later
Mrs wandering round with new green branch not sure where to place it 5R flew off short while ago One youngster trying to peck at Mrs's wing Other watching the world......but where did all the leaves go? Did the ringers have to remove them?
Rachel it will be interesting to see what sex they are. 5R tends to father sons (5/6 so far...)

Afternoon all,
Just back from Rutland Water where the chicks were ringed earlier this morning. Not much action on the nest as 5R and Mrs stayed close to home after this mornings activities. Here are some pics:
Have they gone yet ?
How did they get up here if they cant fly?
Are you kids alright down there?
Vespa Crabro Rachel it will be interesting to see what sex they are. 5R tends to father sons (5/6 so far...) 1 of each this year. Blog now updated http://www.ospreys.org.uk/manton-bay-ringing/ Two ringed at site K & two still to be ringed at site N.
A real pity that they won't be tagging any chicks but intriguing that they're targeting 2 more adult males this year. I wonder who they might be?
