Alan: It is a good idea to do a 'sweep up' of our combined knowledge on European tracking projects. Taking France as an example, I am in the process of trying to find any current/new projects or ones that are still transmitting, but not being actively monitored. Do you remembet Tom from the Orleans Forest, I am not sure what happened to him. On this webpage look at the foot there is a reference to him, but the link is out of use.

Tom is featured and pictured on this Wildlife Tracking page, which covers a period up to 2009.

Tom is also mentioned in the Jan 2011 school exercise at the College William of Lorris, the forest of Lorris is part of the Forest of Orleans.

Sat track schedule.
LG May 8, data (2pt) every 7 days. SWT every 3 days from Mar16
JSB : I do remember Tom but like yourself I have no idea what happened to him.
Wasn't Tom a long time ago? He was a French osprey that headed down to Spain (?) and had a long stopover. Then they stopped reporting about him.

Here they say Tom went to Portugal, which seems vaguely familiar.
"In France, the National Plan of restoration implemented by Meeddat and LPO, the IRD in collaboration with the Association Group Pandion MEEDDAT and the NFB also has an osprey named Tom. The osprey is a native of Orleans region and its monitoring has revealed its fishing sites, its range, the date of his departure, his migration route and the wintering area in Portugal."

It was really peculiar. Tom was featured on a site that was both in French and English. It was alright until he got to the stopover site and then it all went quiet and I think the updates stopped. Then the website eventually disappeared. What happened to Tom I have no idea.
I think it was about the same time as the Finns tracked Pete.
I did find the final part of Tom's story once, but can't locate it now - maybe it was on a site that got deleted.
He never did go to Africa, but settled in Portugal, on the Tagus estuary. He stayed there until around the time of his first birthday, when the signals stopped; the team were't able to find out any more.
Alan thanks for the info on various projects; the Kawartha Lakes tracking is active, as the map has been updated in the last week. Working on the intro to the new thread.
Updates on Morven (from 17Aug) and Red8T, Rothiemurchus and Beatrice from 20 Aug here. Beatrice at her stop-over on France, but the other three still at "home" in Scotland on the dates given
I have set up the replacement thread - it's here
