Rach Beautiful picture Mary. They are charming little creatures and it would be dreadful to have them wiped out in the few pockets where they are hanging on.

There is a project in the North of England which is trying to improve the chances of the reds. Some details here,
I am glad that they are trying hard to protect the Red Squirrels wherever they are all over the UK.... the estimates are that there are only 140,000 Reds left in the UK in comparison to 2.5 million Greys, they are well outnumbered and I just hope that everything can be done that is possible to protect them.

There is a small population at Crosby on Merseyside. Numbers have dwindled in recent years but latest counts suggest they may be increasing again.

I never cease to be amazed at how much I didn't know I didn't know.
Thats good news Galatas.
I do know at Blair Atholl. zero tolerance and Grey Squirrels are shot if seen immediately.
There are also Ransoms for Grey squirrels in places dead or alive and you have to feel for them as it is not their fault for being so robust but they have to be controlled and I hate reading about it. They do have a lot of GB to themselves now.
Lovely pictures and thank you all :)

Galatas that is good news that the no's are up to 1000.
Thanks for that good news: I have visited them several times in the last few years, at the Reserve in Ainsdale and they were much more plentiful a few years ago - last time we went, last year, we did not see any!
