sorry to rub it in, but our weather glorious again.
sorry to rub it in, but our weather glorious again.
Hello everyone - As usual have been lurking but am up to date with all your news. I really don't like to pick out some of you for replies and ignore - so to speak - others, so all I will say is that I wish you all well- as usual, I share your joys and empathise with the less than good news. Take care, all.
Alan - Obviously you need more practice ironing to discover the enjoyment. (NB, I haven't yet. LOL)
Dibnlib - Blood test says you're normal? We could have told you that!!!!
Margo - What a difference from when you first "met". Billie is definitely an indoor cat now.
(8.30 am). Another glorious autumn day of sunshine. Min overnight 6.2 C, expected to rise to the dizzying heights of 18 C today. A flock of galahs just flew over, screeching loudly, as they do.
Friday SmilesCouple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?''Sure.''Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.'No, I can remember it.''Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.''I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!'Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment. 'Where's my toast?'
An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly.'The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What’s the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns.''Do you mean a rose?''Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'
AQ: Ha - the sound of OH vacuuming made me smile. Hey, that's my jigsaw with all the sky and green bits! Thanks for laughs. :-)
OG: Yes, but when you come in from the garden you cook yummy-sounding food; I never feel like doing anything. Of course, if we were part of the "upstairs" lot, people would frown on us for getting dirt under our fingernails.
Brenda: Hope your dinner survived your neighbor's visit.
Must confess that Doc Martin has just started and must watch it! Hi to everyone. Back later!
Good Morning ALL. It is NOT raining although everywhere is still very wet. It rained continually all day yesterday again.
Just waiting for man to come and clean gutters and then off to another funeral.
AQ, I did laugh at the Friday Smiles. Not the endings I expected :-))
Annette, See you are still staying faithful to 'Doc Martin'.
Hi Heather.Always good to hear from you.
AQ : Thanks for the friday smiles especially the first one . lol
Dibnlib : Glad your blood tests were normal.
Brenda : You are so lucky it is not raining.
Margo : Dont blame Billie for not going out in the rain. Hamish is the same.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.
Day 30 of the Hosepipe Ban.
Raining again. Persistant rain from the word go this morning not heavy but annoying nevertheless. Floods in Essex and Suffolk yesterday looked bad. Also the Nene Washes have had to be flooded which has affected lots of ground nesting birds. It is very cold today with current temp at 6.6c. May average max is 16.9c and minimum is 7c. Ground frost forecast for tonight after yet more rain this evening. I just dont understand this business about the aquifers. Where is all this water going if it is not going down into the water table. I always thought chalk was porous.
Had to take LadyP to the doctors this morning as she seemed to take a bad reaction to a tablet she took yesterday for her face pain. She is very sensitive to various types of medication. She has got some eye drops and advised to take paracetamol for the headaches and runny eyes.
Some rain early morning, dry and brightening now, but damp underfoot, so no excuse to leave the HW indoors and get gardening instead!
Brenda – we also remarked that J’s job situation is like waiting for buses … ! It really has been “in at the deep end” this week – glad it was only 2½ days – being in primary school. He doesn’t really like working with six-year-olds, but already says he will miss “his” child next week! He is going into the Academy on Tuesday to work-shadow somebody there. What really annoys us is that there is “no money in the budget” to give any training or induction to these ASL workers in education, where there are caring as well as education issues, but he has to attend a training (on a Saturday!) for the community youthwork - something amiss with priorities there! I was sorry to read of your parcel-fetching neighbour not taking the hint when you offered him a share of your dinner! You soon found the man to do the gutters. Thinking of you at the funeral.
Alan – still awaiting our local election results (we three use a postal vote). They get counted the morning after, as we have a form of PR here in Scotland, not “first past the post”. We do appreciate that we have been so lucky with the weather in recent days, and seeing the grass and plants after our short morning rain is so refreshing. I watched a blackbird this morning – it had a slug or something in its beak, put it down to eat some food, then picked it up and rolled it in the food before taking it away – made me think of Herrings in oatmeal! Bad about the flood control having to open the sluices on the Nene washes – I suppose we have to put the protection of people above the nesting birds? We had 18 degrees yesterday – more like 8 this morning! Sorry about poor Lady P and the tablet reaction and ongoing pain.
Margo – sorry it is so dark and dreary with you, as well as wet. We have white cloud now, but quite bright, and yesterday was the whole blue canopy!
Dibnlib – pleased you are enjoying the digital photography course. So glad about the blood test result being normal!
Heather – nice to see you again – I hope all is well with you, OH and family.
AQ – really laughed at your Friday smiles – haven’t quite reached those extremes yet!
Annette – what I want to know is: how do I get dirt under my fingernails when I wear gloves?!
Must look busy again!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
OG : Unusual for you to have a 'no gardening' day, just wish we could get one good enough for gardening.
HAPPY STAR WARS DAY!!!!
May the fourth be with you.
Good morning all and as of now it has not rained so far today. Sun did try to come out but now cloudy again. Have an evening out tomorrow to look foward to, we are going to see Don Williams, a country and western singer and we are both looking forward to that. Saw him 6 years ago when he said it was his last tour but he has decided to do another for the fans that keep requesting him to tour again. This show is at the BIC in Bournmouth which is not our favourite theatre as it is very large, we prefer smaller venues but he is such a big name that he has to have a show that can accommodate the number of prople that will want to see him.
dibnlib good news about your blood test, must have been a relief for you. So pleased you enjoyed your photography course. You do seem to have been lucky with the weather, must be one of the few places that has not suffered in all this heavy rain.
Annette did have such a laugh over your comment to dibnlib's "ear".
Brenda you do seem to be getting more than your fair share of rain but was glad to see that as yet it is dry for you and most importanly the funeral. We have a dunnocks nest at the top of our garden, first time for us. Late afternoon the parents are down on our patio catching insects so I am assuming there are babies.
AQ OH and I often talk about how Billie was and how she is now. She has changed from that frightened little thing, with us anyway, to a perfect pet. I still feel so pleased that she chose us. Love the Friday smiles.
Hello Heather nice to see you and how is that washing machine going.
Alan not only is it very cold for you but pouring with rain again, you must be wondering when it is going to stop and you get some better weather. Sorry to read about Lady P who does seem to suffer. Hope she will feel better soon.
Off to have my lunch now so take care all and have a good day.
OG appalling that no funds are made available for training. 18 degrees for you yesterday, we managed to reach the dizzy heights of 11 degrees but it was wet as well. Had to give in and put the heating on for a while last evening.
Since last posting on the 30th April, the weather has changed and we have had our fair share of rain and Scotland has been basking - deservedly so - now it has turned quite cold and damp looking although the rain has stopped. Much the same, not a lot doing her but keeping tabls with the DU and LOtL threads.
Do hope that you are all OK and managing to keep well.
Annette, Diane, AQ, and the others over the "pond" Hello and hope you are all OK - your'e not forgotten, I just don't post much on here during osprey season, very remiss I know.
Take care all and Happy Bank Holiday
Ouse Washes disaster and they call this a drought:
Update on life (!)
Middle daughter and family have moved this week to Folkestone. New Army rented billet is hardly big enough to swing a cat in, so daughter had a bijou meltdown yesterday morn. I missed her call so eldest daughter got it all ;-)
Youngest grandchild got 'star of the week' at nursery because she didn't cry once. She is not yet three years old and does have some separation issues when Mum delivers her to the nursery.
Grandson is six today - 'May the fourth be with you' and is enjoying some Star Wars themed presents---
Brother in Brittany has discovered the drawbacks to buying an old house with no damp proof course :-(((
Son in law will probably only get about 70 votes in the Council Elections because he belongs to Tommy Sheridan's Solidarity party - (we don't share his political views so that is two votes he won't get)
RAF son in law (he of shinty fame) has just found out that he needs to pay a lot of money quite quickly to do a petroleum (?) course so that if and when this government makes him redundant he will be able to apply for a job offshore.
I lost one of an expensive pair of earrings this week, somewhere between here and Tesco!
Washing machine still limps along lol
Elderly neighbour is 95 next birthday and has booked her ten week holiday in Portugal for 2013. She has stopped using her gas oven (can't bend down without feeling dizzy) and I am on a mission to find vegetarian microwaveable ready meals that don't contain onions or peppers because she can't digest either. Try that - its practically impossible. Macaroni cheese and cannelloni stuffed with spinach and ricotta are where we start from.
See!! I told you that my life was quite boring!
Kind regards to all xx
EDIT PS - I phoned grandson this afternoon, after school, to say 'Happy 6th Birthday' - He was as high as a kite and said 'Nana - how did you know it was my birthday?'
ANNETTE I really should check my posts before sending them. The other day I sent one that said Dores In instead of Inn - how embarrassing.
Weather not good today. Hail now and then and a biting East wind. still it was good while it lasted!
