the crop at the back of our house has turned out to be Rapeseed:  we were not sure what it was until it actually grew flowers, but now its a glorious colour!

~  ~   views from our bedroom window a week or two ago....  The reddish tree is in next doors garden and is very pretty when in bloom - not sure what it is.

OMG, look where Nottingham baby is!! My heart is in my throat!!!  

AQ: You okay? Hope you're feeling alright.

Just popped in to tell you that there has been an "unprecedented" number of UFO sightings in New Zealand in the last few days, including one reported landing by a credible observer. And now the "UFO flap" has spread to Australia. Witnesses say that the UFO lights are blue and white. So I want you to watch the skies and if you see anything weird, I expect an immediate report. :-)))

P.S. Annette failed miserably to provide me with photographs of UFOs when she went to Arizona, so I expect better from you, being a tough Australian and all!

Evening all:  Have a free evening while kids are at daughter's place. All back here again tomorrow (plus grandson and girlfriend) for birthday BBQ. Now for major catch up.  See I missed OG and was sorry to read about Tore; not sure what to make of all that.

AQ: Ooops. Where did I get the idea the 7-month old was two years already. Getting punchy in my old age.  Re Smiles: The "exercise early in the morning" routine is definitely me - at least when I was working. I used to put my gym clothes by the bed and pulled them on as soon as I woke up; by the time I was really awake, I was already at the gym.

dibnlib: Bjane was recounting the story of her dog Pud - or was it a cat? - who died some years back.  How exasperating about the "new" bus route; hope it got sorted out.  Small world indeed.

Sandra: Glad to see Chubby Chick is finally growing up and not out, but not sure about getting out on that ledge! Cute little Goshawks.

Margo: Hope you're doing better.

Djoan: The Roughting Linn link was interesting; what a shame - more a mystery - that it's so neglected.

Trish2: How nice to get M&S tops on sale plus be able to use a voucher (coupon over here!). Hope it hasn't been too hot for agility.

Alan: Interesting weather you're all having; all a bit odd if you ask me.  Too bad about the Russian Grannies; I see the Swedish entry won; haven't heard the song, don't know the singer. That's a gorgeous shot of the swan in the reeds.

Diane: Eeeek. That's HOT! Ugh. We've had very high winds with lots of sun but it was quieter today. Our daytime temps are in the 70s so very pleasant. Watch out for the turkey vultures! UFO's in Arizona turned out to be Usual Family Offspring!

Heather: Wow! That's one handsome husband you have - he doesn't look his age at all. Very dashing indeed!  We have outdoor bamboo shades on the patio that we put down first thing s so we aren't blinded by the sun, but we leave them down all day when it's really hot. We also have an attic fan for warmer days that help keep the house cool; no a/c and no real need for it so close to the beach.  Your sailing experience really does sound exhilarating - what a thrill.  No doubt a relief that you came back to find your elderly neighbor improving in the hospital and not dumped on her front door!

Lynette: Feathers Hotel is lovely - I could see spending a night there!!

Lindybird: Congrats on the Quiz night - which charity gets what? How do they work that?  Glad you got your computer fixed.  Lovely shot of the rapeseed. Whereabouts are you in the UK? Looks flat.

NiteOwl: Oh dear, hope I didn't miss you - take care and get over your op quickly!  Your OH does really nice videos...very evocative, especially with the music. (OH boo - he's changed the music? I thought that was especially well matched with the trains. Hmmm.)  Had no trouble accessing it at all.  You live about 50 miles north of my sister.

Brenda: You can't see NiteOwl's video? "blocked it in your country"??  How odd.

patriciat: Congrats to Tweed - and Fly for the 5th place showing.

Good Morning All.    Nice to see our friend Cirrus on here - she is always busy trying to keep up with the other threads and the webcams when she is not at work, I know, so doesnt have time to come here and chat much.

Another lovely pic from Alan - cute cygets.  As someone said yesterday, I think, all your photos are top quality, Alan.

Annette:   I am in Cheshire, just north of the Airport at Manchester, and yes, it is quite flat  (well, it seems flat to me, as I was born in the South, and lived on Dunstable Downs which is very hilly, as a little 'un)  They call this bit the Cheshire Plains - if you go to the hills behind us and look down, you can see flattish land for miles and miles.  We are lucky in that we have very mild weather:  very rarely get snowed under, or heavy thunderstorms etc. which happen more to the South. I suppose its because everything just slides past us!  Glad you are enjoying your visitors.

margo:  I see that you are not on here much these days.  I know you find it very hot and tiring - hope that you are OK.

Better put on my Monday Smiles and then go get myself hosed down, more wise words this week:

ps:   Annette:   We all pay a pound or two to join in the Quiz:  this goes to a local Charity which the Bowling Club supports.  There were some cash prizes - not huge, we won £5 between the 6 of us!  This we gave to the local Hospice which has a collection tin behind the bar at the club.   The Club itself which is for the benefit of its members only, benefits from having a full room of folks drinking, although a lot of us were on soft drinks that night. (including me, and I drove us home later)

Annette, No doubt it will be tiring for you, but I am sure you will have a brilliant time hosting the family bbq. I love having family and friends all here, it is the clearing up afterwards I hate.

Hi Diane, I noticed you on the sat tag page.

Linda, I agree that the rapeseed does look lovely but it is lethal for hay fever sufferers. I know OG has remarked about it. It also stinks as it rots from the plant base. We have plenty in the area, but thank goodness our nearby farmers haven't grown it this year.
