There is no guarantee that the whole UK population is descended from the pair of ospreys that nested in Speyside in 1954. In fact there is no guarantee that the pair in 1954 was the same pair that nested in 1959.

I would have to check it but I think that the second nest in Scotland had a Swedish bird as part of the pair.

So in short it is a long complicated story which involves many birds from Scandanavia.

Oh and as far as Ceulan is concerned, his great grandmother was from Norway (ringed as a chick 40 km south of Oslo on 27th June 1992)

Good morning all and thanks to Sandra for all your work in capturing pics of this wonderful family.  Many thanks to all who post comments keeping me in the loop so to speak.  Been looking at the lovely close ups of Ceulan and I think it is a girl, very pretty indeed with those wonderful eyes.

Oh Ceulan is set to be a legendary bird but then his brothers Einion and Dulas are already legends. On Sunday 5th June 2011 I had a ringside seat at the hatching of Einion. That will be a moment that will be hard to surpass.

Oh Tiger - how lucky were you? I still have such a lot to learn - and all because 'Lady' at LOTL was ill in 2010. I didn't even know all these webcams existed until then. We are priviliged to be able to see Nature up close like this. I am so glad Ceulan survived this year :-))

Starling, same here then. The sun came out about 8pm. Rain again tomorrow
