Lynda Hello Sandra, do you know if Crows pester as much on other Osprey families as they do with Ceulan and Co?
Hello Sandra, do you know if Crows pester as much on other Osprey families as they do with Ceulan and Co?
I think that corvids pester raptors when they can. There must be a reason for it,
When ospreys approach the north coast of Spain after a long journey over the Bay of Biscay they are often mobbed by corvids which sometimes force them into the water. This was thought to be the explanation of why one of the tracked birds failed to make Spain even though it got ever so close.

Alan, thanks for the info, the problem with the other nests is I only see the nest and not the surrounding ground area, the cams dont move about. I have seen crows mobbing Buzzards here regularly, I guess its just the norm!
Tiger, oh thats a sad tale of Crows forcing an Osprey into the sea :( I suppose to a Crow any bird of prey is a threat, even though Ospreys don't go hunting for young Crows, I know Buzzards do, thats why they get mobbed around here.
We have had one osprey flying around and one on the meadow for quite a while - hope he is OK and as I say that he has flown off. having a flyaround
in the meadow and he flew off just after I captured it.

Super captures again, Sandra.
Monty with a fish for Ceulan.
He will most probably take it to the nest once he has deheaded it :-)
If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
Thanks Lynnette :-)
The crows were pestering Monty for the fish, he flew off after a while and took it to the nest. It is too big for Ceulan to fly off with it.

Thank you Lynette and Sandra for the great pics!

Huge fish.
Now I am going! lol
Sandra, thanks for the pics and that is one huge fish and "Monty" a great dad and amazed how he kept Einion Dulas and Leri fed last year. even taking fish to the other nest. What a brilliant dad he is :)
I agree B&B first season following this nest and Monty is wonderful. As is Nora. Hope Ceulan copies his example and returns in 2014 to rear his own chicks. Thanks Sandra and everyone for the posts and pics. just catching up now
Monty seems genuinely fond of Ceulan I love the way they often stay close together on the t-perch and look how they stayed together on the meadow today
Watching them today in the field was one of those happy/sad moments. It was great to watch, they do seem to be close, but sad, as they will soon separate :((
