yes almost a year since our grandson was born in July last year. We just love spending time with them all.
glad to see from the DU site that 2fish have been delivered this pm. Well done Odin
Hi, Milly Hope you have lots of company on the Gabfest this evening. I myself will be in & out, mostly out.
Glad to hear the chicks have eaten today in spite of the high winds.
Milly I remember your Grandson been born and was so happy for you :) Milly, I love to come home and read that the Chicks have been well fed.
June looks like you are busy :) Catch up soon B&B x
Up the "wooden hill" June I am all alone and you know with the time difference :)
Very quiet on the Gab tonight ,
Looks like the wind has died down a bit, & the sun is shining ,
it looks a lovely evening on the nest.
Odin just brought home a fish supper
all tucking in
Blimey Odin !!!!!
Another fish, the last one must have been a tiddler
as it did not last very long with those 3 hungry mouths to feed
Hi Sugar & B&B. Sugar thanks for your faithful reporting. Have you noticed those awkward looking sticks on the Nest? According to Mary's summary there is a video or two about those, which I will check out. What a fisherman Odin is to be bringing home food in this windy weather. How fortunate EJ & the chicks are to have him.
Mary, I like your summaries. You've reported the day's events in as few words as possible. Exactly what a summary should be, IMHumbleO, yet with enough info that we can easily go deeper where & if we choose. Thanks for these contributions.
As dawn breaks in UK we eagerly await news at Dyfi, The Nest, The Chicks and 03/08 and the unringed male.
Their facebook and latest twitters are not encouraging.
The last three tweets read.
You and me both, it will take a miracle to get those babies through today.
Rain has not stopped - Loosing Hope.
Rain showing no sign of stopping, Power will not be back on tonight, No further updates until the morning.
It will be now 24 hours since these chicks were last fed and the conditions are expected to contine this morning. Tiger thinks they could go 24 hours without food but would need the protection of the parents in severe conditions we are seeeing in Wales.
Let us hope that 03/08 has not abandoned the nest as speculated but as Dyfi report that is a decision that each maternal osprey will have to do at some point in a situation like this, self preservation will supersede all else.
I do not get emotional over the loss of Ospreys as I understand the life they have to play out but in this situation I do feel for Dyfi and the family of Ospreys there. Such a dedicated team and family of Ospreys.
We dread what today will bring, we have to prepare for the worst.
This is not only a terrible year for the Ospreys, but for all birds in general. How many chicks of other species will or have perished on nests that no one can see ?
I hope the chicks survive and Nora does not need to abandon the nest , but I understand if she does. She and Monty need to survive to breed in the future
I hope the electricity is restored soon so we know one way or the other
First chance to look at length at the LG nest on cam for a while. I am amazed at the size they have grown but reading on the summary the amount of food that is being supplied then probably no surprise.
I am having a game of golf with my youngest son at Spey Valley on Sunday so can have a look in at LG for an hour - I do not normally go up at this stage as there is little to observe from the ground but prefer it in a few weeks once they start exercising their wings.
Looking around local today to see the progress on a few nests.
Barbera - Your post is fully supported - It has been an unusual June such a critical time for nesting birds and who knows what the loss is.
I also agree and can understand if 03/08 has to abandon the nest - self preservation will supersede all else as you have posted in your own words.
I think everyone is eagerly waiting for news this morning.
We may have quite a while to wait for news from Dyfi: someone just posted on facebook that power has now gone off in Machynllyth (not sure of spelling!), just across the estuary. Implicatation that that is a recent development, so doesn't sound like they will have power back any time soon.
Meanwhile, as Barbara & Keith so rightly point out - if this weather is bad for the ospreys, it is at least as bad - or even worse - for many other species. At least ospreys are big enough to have some reserves, and they also have little or no competition for food. I am not looking forward to Springwatch on Monday - I think there will have been major losses at most of the nests they are following, especially the smaller birds.
I see it is much calmer on the nest today, the wind has dropped & no rain at the moment, Odin has started the day off well by bringing in 3 fish already.
Morning Sugar and Odin the wonder that he is has just delivered another fish @ 08.16
