Nicely put Jag, X
Hey Sugar, You still up?
As I say All for one One for all....
B&B I'm right beside you... you post... I will defend your right to post.
Yes Jag still up ,
just winding down from my trip out earlier,
I have to agree with you,we would all defend B&B,
By the way what are you still doing up, you went to work early did'nt you?
I'm off now
I've been home awhile and like Lemac have backread and a great bunch of comments and stuff (pictures & links) it was. Even included a few good LOL's, some maybe unintentional, always the best kind.
I'm tired now, but cannot even think of going to bed until I defend B&B.
B&B, you know that we love you here on the Gabfest, whatever that is, and that you are now among friends. I understand that you are hurting; I've been attacked a few times myself, remember? even this evening,
But I know that your resiliancy is as great as that great big soft loving heart of yours (and as big as your capacity for getting into trouble) and that tomorrow (today now) you will be fine.
As for the attackers, they are so wrong in so many ways that it isn't worth my time to even try to have a discussion with them.
So, Sleep well, my friend, Tomorrows another day.
SEAGULL said: "the atmosphere certainly does feel alot more relaxed here and Im not always very good at keeping my opinions to myself, so I think I might stay here if thats ok?"
Seagull, I think you have found your home on the forums right here with us for as long as you care to stay.
at 3:20 EJ leaves and a miner skirmish follows. Again #3 "starts it" probably unintentionally. He stands up from his pace in the middle & wiggles around. #2(?) starts some aggression, but is immediately stared down by #1. EJ soon returns and is now partially covering the chicks.
The wind is blowing and it looks cold up there. Little #3 seems to feel it most and often seeks shelter, frequently from her siblings when ej isn't about. or sometimes even when she is,
Some great posts after I went to bed last night and support them all.
Remember those that posted these insulting remarks to people who are only expressing there opinion. These people will soon be migrating so we will not have to listen to them soon.
BJ - I liked your post so when anything goes wrong with me I know who to blame it on - LOL (I have some spare Safety Helmets for next trip to LG).
B & B - Be my Feisty Girl - LOL
It is a dreicht start to the day here in NE Scotland (Rain with a High of 9 - 48 for June) - unfortunately there seems to be no improvement over the near future - and midsummers day approaching.
AVIEMORE 10 DAY
Odin has brought a fish in this morning but as normal Number 3 chick immediately curled away in submission and doubt if he /she got fed. Even if this chick does survive it will be a Runt and they do not fair well after they leave the nest.
Morning Keith, June and all.
Seagull, a lurker was a well used term for someone that read the posts but never posted, it sounds derogarory but I'm pretty sure most that use it do so with a smile. We or I now tend to say a reader instead.
B&B I hope you are feeling better today. As Keith says above we shall have hard hats on for our visit to LG in a few weeks...his little cartoon of you in boxing gloves is pretty appropreate bont you think... lol
Ok now to the birds,
A quick scan through the DU and it looks like they have had a fish but it also seems that wee3 didn't really get any... It also seems the EJ is off to get another.
I'm away for a wee while as two day shifts mean today is a catch up with housework stuff :-?
Hi I was one of those lurkers, lol until this year I thought I might try joining in. However, having lurked around for a few years I have to say I don't find the main blog a very friendly place. Seeing a few of your comments, can someone tell me the rules for posting please?
Hello Starling - Some Forums and as you have mentioned the Main Blog to some can be regarded as Not a friendly place. You will find forums that are welcoming and I have used this particular forum since it was started because we all got thrown off the main blog last season as they wanted to reserve it for information only. I have found this site very friendly and have continued with it. I think this is a good appraisal for this site.
Rules on any RSPB forum are found in the little blue print at the very bottom of the page but I will link you to it.
Hope you find some comfort here. We talk about anything Osprey or Non Osprey and are very respectful to each other.
Which area in Scotland are you. You may meet many local friends here. I am in the Highlands (Aberdeenshire).
Off for a walk to get strawberries at the farm and as it is near Lochter it is an excuse to go and have a look in at the Osprey Nest - See you around later.
Thank you Keith very helpful. I have to say I only found the rest of the threads recently, I used to just go to the cam and the blog from RSPB.
Nice to see you post rather than read... welcome along to the crazy world of the Gabfest,
If you've been reading here for a while you will already know what we are about... Right now the chat is almost all Osprey related and concern for wee3 as I have been calling the third chick. As the year goes on and the birds leave to better weather, our chat will evolve to other topics, music, pictures, holidays, ah the list is endless...
It'd be nice to see you around,
Keith any excusse to get out to Lochter.. This is a place I need to see... Perhaps I shall add it to the now very long list I have for my anual leave...
Have a good day my Friend.
Sugar you mentioned Sunshine was around yesterday, If you are reading, buddy, lets hear from you.
Some have been posting - "Why does EJ not feed the youngest chick"
EJ will feed whoever will beg for the food and unfortunately the youngest never does get a chance to get in place and beg like the others.
Richard is quite correct and Birds of Prey will lay their eggs staggered more as an insurance policy - Roy's book - A Life of Ospreys explains this. Sometimes the insurance policy is required as some eggs do not hatch or sometimes in cases of bad weather and shortage of food supply it is necessary to have the stronger chick/chicks rather than all the same with the possibility of nest wipe-out.
Her maternal instinct is to raise strong chicks that have a chance of survival and that is what she is doing and doing it very well despite emmotional thoughts towards the weaker.
