  • B&B - you could never be 'redundant'!!!

Time I too was elsewhere. Night, all.

  • Morning All

A clear, dry morning on the nest, Alba is asleep & Cally is preening,

EJ brought the 1st fish of the day at 5.29, so the chicks have had breakfast,

as i type the sun is now coming out , looks windy there today.

  • Morning All & Sugar (earlybird).... tks for the fish report.

Looks nice and bright this morning, Caledonia and Alba are doing a bit of preening, and a bit of looking up to the skies, maybe shes looking for Mum!

  • bright&breezy

Mary goodnight and yes you are back and we do know. Ya brill lol

For a person that does not know much you beat "hen racing" ok a Yorkshire country bumpkin saying but endearing lol.

    Speak soon :)) x

B&B you always make me laugh, and as Sugar says you will never be redundant! LOL....

Mary, a wonderful photo and not as adventurous as you,

Been to some Islands and love to got to Uist and see Elvis :)

So pleased you have some Goldies but do not like to leave my birds with no food.

Its a sad story about Elvis, hope he finds a mate one day.   Have been to North Uist/Harris/Lewis twice during his years of visiting those islands B&B and never spotted him, but knowing your luck if you went you would probably find him LOL....  Remember you and Jag spotting the Osprey at Tweed Valley, when I have roamed the area many times looking and saw zilch!!!! LOL

Yes I do worry about leaving my visiting birds with no food, but luckily the garden right next door leaves food out too, so they dont have to look too far, and as soon as we are home again and put food out they appear like magic out of nowhere in a matter of minutes, we laugh to ourselves thinking how do they know LOL!!!!

  • I am thinking about Odin delivering that fish @ 11.03 last night, I wonder if this is a record, I remember him delivering a late fish last year but dont know if it was later than last night.        OK silly I know, but I have visions of him fishing with his little miners lamp strapped to his head LOL....

  • SUGAR - A wee look in as I will not be around much today as much business to deal with and help a friend.

Thanks for the early morning updates and always look forward to your early bird reporting.

Yes it is a lovely sunny and warm day for a change in The Highlands so let us hope the sun does not blind out the camera or I am in trouble.

Mary - There is enough strapped on these birds without another contraption (I know you are only joking).

  • LOL Keith, I thought that would get you going!!!!

  • Morning all. Out all day yesterday andso  missed all  activitees but pleased to learn from the blog that all went well and our two youngsters now have beautiful names, thanks to the school chidren and have been ringed and tagged. I hate seeing these back packs on the birds but, there we are, 'fait accompli'.

Cally and Alba are both resting whilst EJ looks on and as I type in comes Odin with a FISH, what a great guy- he doesn't have his miner's helmet on at present Mary!

  • Morning all, thanks for updates. Just caught up on posts – darvics again – how interesting!!

Mary GK: Tweed Valley darvics\right leg – well spotted. Very interesting and like you I too am inquisitive. I see Keith has e-mailed Tony and hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it soon.

    Rachel

I see there has been some interesting discussion re ringing codes while I've been out this evening - thank you, all.

It surely can't be coincidence that Loch Garten got 'AA' (as the original modern UK nest), but I don't see how they can use this beyond the next few seasons (only works up to the 9th chick - or 10th, since they didn't use AA0...) With over 200 pairs in Scotland now, it would be difficult to make a logical system work. Pity - I really like the idea!

Rachael:   You are correct – the letters cannot represent the nest but with the coding being changed to three digits, the first digit could?  That would allow 26 (A-Z) regions/nests in Scotland and plenty combinations using the following two digits.  Don’t know – only guessing here but the first two cannot identify the region/nest - too restrictive.  Somewhere, there have been so many posts, I recall a post from Keith advising he did not know the significance of the three digits and that Alan Petrie would probably know (please correct me anyone if I am wrong).

It has also sprung to mind - will Blue AA1/AA2 (our birds’ ID) be used in England/Wales – it could be with the darvic on the right foot?

This is all getting to much for me lol

  • Cally feeding but Alba not interested and continues to preen whilst lying down--what a life.

Must read back blog re the ringing codes--I'm afraid I just don't understand them !

  • Karen it seems that the Glasnyn chicks did not get the three digit Darvic ring codes.   Here is a link to the blog concerning their ringing.

PS: Hope Keith gets a reply from Tweed Valley with an answer to our question!!!   Soon LOL, before we forget about it.

  • The ringing code system is just a shambles. Hopefully with the new 3 character codes we will be able to make some sense out of it. They are already using 3 characters in Europe.

Keith Brockie s ringing group are still using 2 character ring numbers. I can read Blue WT and Blue UW from his pics taken at the 2 nests in Perthshire recently.

  • Mary GK - thanks.  I thought this new system was for entire UK?  It is a really good idea.  Will confuse us a bit just now, but in years to come - brillant.

Between Tweed Valley and now 2 digits at Glasnyn (maybe just Scotland 3 digits?) - I give up! LOL

You would think they would all get together and come up with a Uniform ringing system Alan.....  it cannot be that hard can it!!!!!
