  • HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!

Do yourself a favor and check back to the end of last week's thread for chat and pics. OG posted some extraordinary photos!

My heart goes out to all people and wildlife who are suffering from the dangerous weather conditions. Everyone stay safe and take every precaution. (Don't try to drive on flooded streets!)

I hope this will be a good week for ospreys and other wildlife.

  • Hey Diane: Thanks for starting us off.  Was just looking at the BBC website - amazing pics of firemen smashing a hole in front door of a house in Aberystwyth, which started a deluge of water pouring out of the house that went on and on and on....   Then other pics of a camping site where the poor people were supposed to be enjoying a vacation.  What a mess.

  • Just caught up.

Lindybird: While I'm off pulling weeds at AQ's, maybe your OH can come to my place and help my OH do some of the multiple small annoying things that aren't getting done around here?  Wonderful clematis!

dibnlib: Take care of the snuffles and don't overdo the swimming.

Trish2: I see Alan has delegated reponsibility for Jerry Cans to Francis Maude, but since he's in the government, best not to hold your breath!  (Where are you? Nowhere near the floods I hope.)

Alan: I see the Dyfi staff came to the rescue of that ailing chick.  :-)

OG: Must confess my favorite pix are those of the sunset. Lovely.

More ghastly news from Syria. Geez. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth being connected to the rest of the world....

  • Annette - Glad you are dropping in here to deal with my weeds. But it looks like you've beaten me to Linda's OH - I needed him to fix all the things my OH never gets around to!!!

OG - Wonderful pics, love the clematis. I know it's winter but it isn't supposed to be this cold. Down to 2.2 C this morn. Currently (12.50 pm) a sunny 14 C. It should be raining. It is the clear cloudless skies bringing these frosty nights. The farmers must be so despondent.

Off to Dau2 for a family gathering this arvo.

  • Hi, all.

NiteOwl: I hope you're continuing to make good progress after your surgery. I enjoyed the video you posted very much. Very nice!

Margo: I hope you're doing okay! I saw a post that said your weather had been dangerous -- high winds. Take care of yourself. Hope you aren't on toilet watch.

OG: Loved reading the full account of your holiday. The B&B sounds like it was in a serene setting. Thank you so much for posting the photo of the bloggers. It's such a pleasure to put names to faces. I loved your holiday photos. The GSW was beautiful. Grebes always make me laugh with their suave haircuts. Lovely photo of Laddie in flight. I could never photograph flying birds well, even back when I had good equipment. You're so talented. Congratulations on winning AlbertRoss. He's gorgeous. I look foward to more pics and hol commentary.

Lindy: Beautiful clematis from you. Glad you were able to spend enjoyable time with your grandson and the rest of the family. Please send your OH to do house maintenance tasks here. I can give him a To-Do List that would rival War and Peace in length. Glad you resolved the issue with the heating boiler and nothing was damaged. I can't believe you've had your heat on. It was 32.2 C (90 F) here today. I keep arguing with myself about where to set the AC thermostat. I don't want to pay high electric bills, but I hate the heat. I'll send some heat your way right away!

Heather: I'm very sorry about your middle daughter's marriage. I know from experience that a divorce is devastating, but she could emerge from it a stronger person with new insight into who she is and what she wants in life. My best to her. It's a rough journey.

Alan: Your photos of the swans were beautiful! Glad Hamish's blood tests showed improvement.

GeorgeG: Wonderful that you and Diesel enjoyed your holiday, and congrats on seeing the kite and the peregrine.

AQ: Well done on walking the church steps. I'm glad that your back managed to heal itself. Don't try to do too much.

Patricia: I hope your OH's leg ulcer is healing well. Glad that the nurse is pleasant. Nice that you got to see the Olympic torch relay.

Scylla: Nice to see you here. Loved your photo of the memorial flight. LOL!

Annette: I envy you all of your French doors. Sounds just lovely. Glad you had an enjoyable time with family.

DibnLib: I loved that photo of the boxer you posted earlier. I miss Bison, my boxer dog, every single day. He used to lie in the big recliner chair in that position.

Hello to Trish, Sandra, Lynette and everyone I've missed. Sorry I can't reply to everyone. I got behind in posts...again. :-(

Good to hear that Auntie is doing fine.

    Everyone have a good Sunday.

More ghastly news from Syria. Geez. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth being connected to the rest of the world....

This is one of my biggest personal dilemmas. I feel that I should be informed and active in the world, but reading the news makes me so depressed and angry. And I feel helpless these days to make any positive change, anyway, especially with the political climate in this country. It's difficult to know what to do.

  • AQ:  I'm sure Lindybird wouldn't mind us starting a list of household chores in various destinations around the world - I see Diane has joined the line.  (Do you think we should chip in for the airfare?)  :-))  Just a thought: Shouldn't your weeds be slowing down for the winter by now?

Diane: In the case of all these problems in the world, knowledge definitely isn't power.  Take care.

Night all. Having breakfast with daughter tomorrow; hope the weather improves for all the cold and wet folks out there!

  • AQ - Clematis was Linda's, not mine.  Don't want to take credit for her lovely photos!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • ANNETTE no thankfully I'm nowhere near the floods in Wales.  I'm in North Yorkshire.  When I wrote my jokey post about the water butt and Jerry Cans I hadn't seen the news and did feel very guilty joking about the amount of rain we'd had.  Those poor people.  I cannot imagine having flood water polluting my home.  It just doesn't bear thinking about.

  • Morning all.

I see three baby Goshawks in front of nest moving, not sure about the two in the back ground. Not sure if it's because of all the rain we have had in Wales. I shall look later.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • I have just had another look and I think it is only the three that survived that terrible weather!!

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • DIANE the boxer is Alfie and he belongs to my dear friend. She has another called Chelsea and before that Megan and Rosie. Alfie is their first male and  also the first to have a proper tail. Docking is something I completely disapprove of. I was surprised to see a Cocker Spaniel for sale in the P&J with a legally docked tail as I thought this practice was now illegal.

  • Good Morning;    Thanks to Diane for starting us off again on yet another new week.

I see that others are finding it hard to find time to keep up with the posts - its certainly easier in the winter, when we are more indoors, and there are not so many webcams to watch nor Ospreys to ponder over. I shall come on later and try to post some replies:  sorry I've not been on here much lately. Will also source some more Monday Smiles ready for tomorrow!

Have been watching the developments of the floods in Wales and Yorkshire with horror - out of the blue in summertime, I'm sure and those poor folks won't know whats hit them.  I did feel so sorry for them, now they will have a massive clearup.  My OH's sister is in North Wales at the moment but thankfully it is unaffected there.

I totally agree with Diane and Annette about the Syria situation:  we watch these things from a distance and wring our hands, unable to do anything to help or intervene in any way, sometimes I think it is much worse than years ago when it was only in the newspapers and the news was usually days old, and probably filtered out. I do like to keep up with what is going on in the world, and the world is now such a much smaller place now thanks to modern technology, but it comes at a personal price when you care about people.

  • Good Morning all,

Diane I am feeling a little better, I had a rough day yesterday and worse due to being so upset about Dyfi and watching the situation there, I watched the news at tea time and the flooding was awful.. all those poor peoples homes and holiday parks devastated, and all the ground breeding birds and animals that must have been lost to it too.

Here is another video from our holiday in March this year.

  • NiteOwl: What a beautiful, serene video. Just lovely! I love seeing all the pretty locales (since I'm in the U.S.). I'm sorry that you had a rough day yesterday. I hope you continue to improve and go from strength to strength!!!
