  • Nadal out of Wimbledon, beaten by Rosol after 5 sets.

  • ALAN the sahara dust rain must have been country wide then as we had it too.  Not good on a black car!

We did a double agility session tonight - 2 hours.  You wouldn't think it to look at Mia though.

  • Evening all: Good day today, did some errands, etc., then spent an hour in the garden puttering after dinner. Now watching Doc Martin. Also went to see my doc with toe, which doesn't seem to have got that much better after a week of antibiotics - saw the actual doc this time (rather than his nurse practitioner) who said, no, I don't have cellulitis as she told me, just an ingrown toenail!  He's anti-antibiotics and I don't think he was thrilled that his assistant misdiagnosed me. Anyway, he sorted it out with minimal aggro, which didn't stop me going to the gym or generally running around. Oh yes! Very dramatic scene on the freeway - saw smoke on the opposite side of the road and as I passed by a tree suddenly exploded in huge flames within a second or two. No idea what started it - it wasn't an auto accident - but it was a startling example of just how dry our vegetation is and how wildfires - like the ones now burning in Colorado - can leap entire mountain ridges in a matter of minutes and wipe out whole communites. Fortunately, this one was put out quickly; will find out all about it later I'm sure.

AQ: Free-to-air? That's an interesting concept; hope you don't have to generate your own power on a bicycle or anything like that. :-)

Lindybird: Have probably missed you but hope you have good weather for your few days away. Those pix from Wales are gorgeous - our sunsets happen very, very quickly, probably because we're closer to the equator or something. Sorry - misread your post; thought your son was going to be moving closer to you. Funny thing is, before we moved up here, we saw more of our friends who live here than we do now - and they're only a 5 minute walk from us. Very odd. You're right about slim pickings on telly in the summer (apart from Doc Martin reruns or course).

GeorgeG: What? No Lollipop lady to help the kiddies cross the road? They have the same problem here with parents stopping right by the school gates and kids trying to cross with all the vehicles coming and going. Never heard of Chris Packham, but that program sounds interesting. Will keep an eye out for it.

WendyBarrter:  Ooops. Sorry, promise not to do any housework for a while or at least not to brag about it on here.  Sounds like Alicat is the person to ask about laundry.

Alicat: I see your Dad has first dibs on the new washer; guess we'll all have to take a number!  :-)  What's this with toes? First yours, then mine, now yours again!  It's contagious. :-)

Sandy: Wow!! A tornado? Amazing.   That must've been scary. So glad you're okay.

patriciat: How wonderful that the party was such a success. Saw the famous handshake on telly. Great the rain held off until it was over - and a good showing from Tweed too!  Brilliant!

Diane:  Fascinating ruling from Roberts on Obama Care. A major surprise since he could so easily have voted "no" as everyone expected.  I'm pleased though I must say that my doc wasn't thrilled and I know you were concerned about the individual mandate. I do hope the plan, assuming it doesn't get repealed by the Repubs if they win the election, works out for the best, although my OH says it would be very hard to undo at this point.

Hi also to Brenda, Alan, and Trish2.

Will have a quick look in on LoTL now then probably an early night. Hope UK folks have a dry sunny day; that Diane has low temps and low humidity; and that AQ doesn't get too cold Down Under!

  • LINDA, Hope you have an early ' look in'. Have a good 'long weekend' away.

  • WendyBartter - Making beds!!! I have memories of completely stripping bed down to mattress every morning at boarding school. No short cuts. Every item off & folded individually. PS - They all call me AQ on here.

Aliicat - Owwwww-ch, your poor toes. P'raps you need some big fluffy slippers for protection!

Sandy - What a scary day. Glad you are OK.

Linda - Divine sunset pics. Have a great weekend  . . . and don't forget your camera!

Patricia - A memorable day. So wonderful you were able to be part of it.

Annette - Free-to-air TV means we don't pay a subscription to view - the station generates its income from the adverts (millions & trillions of the darn things). Horrific pics on the news of the Colorado fires.

Our weather today just can't make up its mind. One minute it is pouring with rain, the next it is blue skies & sunshine, then raining & windy again. Well, not exactly a minute, I exaggerate, maybe half an hour.

Chocolate is the Answer. Who cares what the Question is?

Coffee, chocolate and men - some things are just better rich.

I want it all and I want it covered in chocolate.

There are four basic food groups - milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and chocolate truffles. [Yeay!]

Eat a square meal a day - a box of chocolates.

Save the earth it's the only planet with chocolate!

Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite, and you'll eat less.

Nuts just take up space where chocolate ought to be.

I don't understand why so many "so called" chocolate lovers complain about the calories in chocolate, when all true chocoholics know that it is a vegetable. It comes from the cocoa bean, beans are veggies, 'nuff said.

  • RINGING and TAGGING starting

  • god morning lindy - don't do all that 'ironing' stuff, am into careful folding but am good at ironing all sorts of fabric pieces for patchwork - right priorities here!!  Instead of an industrial machine I suggest you get OH to pay for someone to do ironing for you - how's that??  Not watching much tennis as too many Ospreys & Kestrels & Sparrowhawks to watch!!!

    My photos here (eventually)

  • Oh there's a shock Brenda - first I've heard of that one - Nadal must be off his game, not that I follow so closely now - good morning

    My photos here (eventually)

  • Hi AQ its not very often i wear slippers i just walk around in bare feet dad says im like his mother use to as she was the same always walking around in bare feet when bobbie got out a few weeks back i was running down the street after her in bare feet OH goes mad at for it

  • Hi everyone - daughter #2 and children on the train to Inverness, after several scares following landslips on the line. At one point they were going to get as far as Newcastle and then what? All the family were on rescue alert, prepared to pick them up from wherever and bring them 'home' but thankfully not needed. Apparently a very emotional 'farewell' at Folkestone this morning, sil also upset. Just what is this all about? He doesn't plan to see his children until Christmas. Thinks it is better that way. I will say nothing but am feeling plenty.

Take care all, and thank you for all pics and posts. I will catch up when things are a bit more settled.

  • New Blog with chicky names, for those who may not know.

  • Good Evening All, and Welcome to all the new comers. :)

We have been back a while but not had chance to post as there has been so much to catch up on all the threads as well as tons of washing!  I found out about poor #3 just after we arrived in Cornwall, it broke my heart just reading about how it lost its little life and it put a real dampner on the week for me, I still havn't watched the video and not sure if I will, I am still so upset about it, I had been watching the nest over the last few days waiting for the ringing/tags but missed the whole thing today so had to catch up on DU, AA1 and AA2 have grown on me this week but I don't want to get too attached after Tore and Bynack, I still can't get my head around them being gone.  Well here is a short video part1 of our holiday that my OH did today, more to follow as he does them.

    Have a good weekend. :)

  • HeatherB Hope your daughter and grandchildren have arrived safely.  I heard on the radio about the freight-train derailment, then we saw pictures on TV news.  We really are having extreme weather this 'summer'.

  • Patriciat - They should be arriving any time now. Just waiting for the call! Trying to keep busy , have just changed our bed linen, a job which has been waiting all day. Now playing catchup on the computer, as you do----

  • Sorry I haven't posted - just letting you know we are mostly ok (apart from J with a virus) - no floods here - the worst weather seems to have gone round us again!  Even saw some blue sky between the moderate showers today!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
