Here begins a new day in the life of Odin, EJ, and their daughters Caledonia, and Alba. Alba is pronnounced Alapa. Only found this out a couple of years ago. A lot of Ghaidlig pronouciation is different from English or Scots because it comes from a Celtic route as opposed to a Germanic one. Here's a site that may help.
Here's to plenty of fish and sunshine today :-)
Caledonia, and Alba are resting peacefully at the moment. I'll still have to use their eyes to identify them because 3 didgits on a leg ring can be hard to read. As for who the dad is. We'll never know if biologically it's Odin or XD but as far as I'm concerned the real father figure is Odin. He's the man who's worked though horrendous conditions to bring fish for the youngsters. He watches out for their saftey and escorts intruders off the premises. He's even fed Caledonia and Alba this season. So as far as I'm concerned Caledonia and Alba are Odin's daughters :-)
Thanks Heron for the info re Ghaidlig; have just listened to a song on the site, really lovely. But the language itself is a bit too complicated for me. I'm half Italian and did try to learn that but it beat me lol, and Ghaidlig sounds even more difficult - but very beautiful :)
Here's a clip I posted just as the new thread arrived.
Alba gets up, lasers (not shown) and lies back down next to Caledonia. She then starts prodding her, and on getting no response has a quick preen instead:)
Alba is up for a night-time preen
Hi Mims :-) Even for us Scots, Scots Gaelic can be hard to learn. I know one or two phrases but that's all. The language is derived from Irish and is very similar. As you're half Itallian. Do you think Italy will win Euro 2012? I think they've got a great chance against Spain.
Okay now to find a way to go back on topic. Caledonia, and Alba look fairly relaxed at the moment. Here's hoping in the future these girls lay many eggs and raise lots of chicks :-)
Lol Heron; I'm half Italian but don't follow the football (so may the best team win, say I diplomatically:-), also I was brought up in Liverpool but don't like the Beatles. So I guess I'm as much good as a chocolate watch lol.
Got to go now, but here's to a more relaxing day for the dear family tomorrow, with fish a-plenty and some sunshine. Night night all and happy watching :-)
Night Night Mims. Have a peaceful roost :-)
Some preening by one of the girls. To anyone who can identify them on the night cam, please give us a clue :-)
I listened to the song - I do like "folk" type music, oh to have a clear enough voice to sing it.
I was about to say that EJ had landed but one of the girls must have been for a bathroom break - she looked huge! T'other one's followed suit now but doesn't look so big.
Hi Scylla :-) Caledonia, and Alba both look giant at certain angles. Probably why most people correctly guess they were both girls before ringing and tagging took place.
EJ calling insistently :-/
A rattle. Alarm call?
Sound is playing up again, bursts of loud buzzing :-(
Possible intruder sequence - nothing seen, EJ heard calling. I thought I heard a rattle near the end but the wind has suddenly got blustery so it could have been that.
