Lady and dumpling this morning.
Lovely and peaceful on the nest this morning, the young just aroused from its slumber, attend the ablutions, and after a casual climb joins Mum on the edge of nest, to continue with those 'itchy fluffy bits'
07.10 home alone still very peaceful, several 'Tits' in the tree at the back, just lost a capture (Grr) of cheeky one right in front of' home alone' quite amusing, as though they were saying 'good morning.
Just catching up with the Blog and thought this was interesting ,as I mentioned yesterday, a lot of extra preening happening.
"He has been preening a lot today, which is normal for this stage- when we were ringing and tagging him on Monday, Roy Dennis pointed out that the waxy cuticle which covers the quill of the emerging feathers on young birds, was in his case, still attached in many places.Roy said that whilst in dry weather this wax flakes off easily, in wet years such as this, the chicks do a lot of extra preening to break off this sheath to allow the feathers to growth through fully and expand out."
I noticed that too, Kate. I imagine this will be true of most or all chicks this year: I wonder if it will delay fledging?
It also mentioned " fledging about a week" so lets hope all the hard work of preening will have paid off??
Just get ready for some more Heart stopping moments:)
Morning every body, thsnkyou for all the pictures yesterday, thankyou katie that was quite interesting about his feathers, this little fella is growing so fast now.
Good Morning All. Looks sunny at Lowes at the moment. Dumpling still preening and Lady on the edge of the nest surveying her domain. I'm making the most of things before Dumpling fledges. After that it won't be so easy to see him as he won't always be on the nest.
I'll be out most of the day but will look in when I can. BBL
Morning all, a nice peaceful nest.
