Morning all: Thanks ALL for JULY 4 greetings! Currently scarfing up bowl of shredded wheat and watching Murray/Ferrer match. We're currently 4 all in the third set.
OG: What a handsome fellow - thank you. Did you know that back when they were arguing about which bird to choose, the other option was a turkey. Glad they went with the eagle, which has much more "gravitas" :-)
AQ: Is URTI a car or a medical procedure? Sounds like a lovely time with your friend. I'm planning morning coffee with a friend for later this week, but trying to figure out which Wimbledon match will be in progress.
Lindybird: I've never had much luck with Petunias; I think I overwater them and then they really attract snails, which typically aren't a problem in the garden. What a disappointing package - and useless and soggy to boot.
patriciat: Don't feel bad complaining about your lack of summer. My niece in the UK is ready to pack up and move somewhere - anywhere - warm and dry. She gets very depressed with all the rain and gray.
Margo: Webbed feet! Oh no. :-) Lucky you seeing Roger. Not surprised Billie on the look out for trespassers; cats are so territorial. Had forgotten about finger, so it must be on the mend!
Diane: I saw the Higgs Bosun news too - I guess they've found a particle that has all the characteristics and are awaiting additional confirmation in the months ahead. It's a really big deal. OH and I were watching Scott Pelley (CBS) last night (waiting for PBS news) and noticed that coverage of the impending annoucement from the conference got about 10 seconds of air time!! Then it was on to much longer coverage of Andy Griffith's death - a nice man, but.... Maybe the Higgs will warrant 20 seconds tonight?

WendyBarrter: Finally - an exercise I can get enthusiastic about, but surely lifting a glass of wine burns more calories and there's the added cardio benefit from the wine (red of course)? :-)
I'm now brewing up more sugar water for the hummingbirds, then I'm going to attack the bucket of oranges and squeeze some OJ. May be back later, but am meeting daughter around 5 for dinner and fireworks and won't be back until after 10. Take care ALL.

PLEASE - can anyone explain to me why tennis match on centre court has to stop for rain when there is a roof? Is it just a Wimbledon tradition that "rain stops play"?

Well OH has done it again - 1st place for best half plot. That's the 3rd year in a row. His brother has got 2nd. Reckons he's not bothered but sibling rivalry is definitely there.

OG: Andy said he went in and took a shower during the rain - but he could've stayed outside for that, right? (No help from me on the "whys" of the delay though). Also, since I played tennis eons ago, I've never understood the break point stuff - or maybe I never got that far in a game...
Still warm. Morning was quite sunny which brought out the Mesembryanthemums and Californian Poppies. Afternoon was bright with showers; evening less bright with showers. Apparently, there is something nasty coming around lunchtime tomorrow!
Had quite a productive day – caught up with some long-overdue correspondence and housework. J seemed quite sad it was end of term, but the department had a good day. He is out this evening and OH is outside washing bird feeders. It was Starling City here this morning; I think they have a second crop of young judging by the noise! But still saw plenty of the other usual suspects!
Linda – welcome back – pleased it was a good break, if a little damp!
Patricia – I was surprised you actually got your grass cut yesterday – I hope he can do your other jobs soon.

Annette - glad the hammock was useful for collecting oranges as well as resting! Is it washable? So pleased Delilah’s ortho man was happy to leave her leg in soft splint – wonderful how fast children can heal. J will phone to be fast tracked back on benefits – although he is still on Council payroll he isn’t working. If he gets youthwork hours during school hols, he will declare them and have his pay deducted – technically he will still be “seeking work”. If he is asked back to the Academy next term, he would like to work there again – he has been happy doing what he did.
AQ – coffee until 5pm? Well done! I hope your friend is fully recovered.

Sorry, I didn't get back on here. I had a series of phone calls.
I was happy to see Murray win, but the first two sets were so hard to watch. Ferrer is such a good player. The roof is not closed unless the rain is to be persistant. It is an open air contest and some players say it is an advantage to those players who play under a closed roof and don't have to contend with rain stoppages, wind, etc.

OG - Friend was depressed after her illness and had a lot to unload!
The answer in our media to the Wimbledon centre court closure is as follows. It takes 10 mins to close the roof. Then it takes the air-conditioning 30 mins to adjust the conditions to simulate (!) outside conditions. Once the roof is closed, rules decree it must remain closed even if the sun is shining for the rest of the day!!! I lost interest in the tennis days ago - women's screaming, men's grunting and the bang-bang-bang from the baseline. It is just so boring. Where are the rushes to the net? the lobs? It is all about power . . . and the ball goes so fast I can't see it. Not to mention the inane commentary on our delayed telecasts which often start up to 20 mins later than advertised time. Instead I am indulging myself and drooling over the French chateaux, abbeys & countryside, occasionally interrupted by cyclists.
The clouds are clearing & the sun is just appearing - I hope they saw today's forecast, "sunny", as I want to go on another photo expedition.
