  • HAPPY NEW WEEK!

  • Evening all:

Diane: Thanks yet again for getting us off the ground.

Alan: I found out from friends today that the nose rings I thought the sync swimmers were wearing were in fact nose plugs! I clearly have to get out more. I agree that synchronized ironing (and even leaf blowing) would be more entertaining - and you'd actually get something useful done.

Limpy: That is such a sweet photo!

dibnlib: Thanks for weekend smile. :-)

Going to watch today's reruns of the Games, but ready to switch channels if anyone shows up on a court with a ball!  Have a good Sunday all.

  • You can tell the Games are winding down - the first hour of coverage tonight is all about London during WWII, the Battle of Britain, the Blitz, and ultimately America's entry into the war, with emphasis on Churchill and interviews with survivors of the BofB and Dunkirk. Nice; presented by Tom Brokaw.  Games back - diving!

  • Morning All:     Dull here but dry and warm(ish).  Thanks to Diane and Annette too, for starting us off again.

Late to bed last night as we had an enjoyable evening with a BBQ at Friends house, together with another friend who lives many miles South of here now, but who we used to see a lot of:  she now has a Grandson the same age as Tomasz, so we had lots to talk about and lots to catch up on. We ate crudites with dips in the garden, followed by BBQ ed Ribeye steak and salad, and had yummy cheese and strawberries to finish off. Altogether a lovely relaxed evening with friends. (only fly in the ointment was no one suggested putting on the TV for a few minutes to watch dear old Mo win his race, which of course he did, with style. We watched this on the midnight news when we got home).

My avatar has been changed to the Union Jack just for today (sorry those not in GB) in honour of our young Olympians, as I am so very very proud of our wonderful Team GB and all their achievements:  the Olympics has far surpassed our dreams and has been something amazing to watch.

    Back tonight, see you later.

  • Good afternoon all haven't been on for a while but have been keeping reading all that has been going on and thank you all for the pictures and chat. Since the last time I was on I have had a visit from son and his wife as on their way back from celebrating her mother's birthday they wanted to visit the National Gallery in Edinburgh so they stayed for a couple of nights.

I along with my cousins and some of their friends attended the inaugural dinner of the Adam Smith International Foundation which was attended by delegates from around the world. It was a four course dinner with coffee and shortbread to end the meal which had been cooked and served by the students of Fife College. There was also talks about Adam Smith and entertainment that would have been appropriate during his lifetime.

I have also been to Anstruther and had fish and chips along with my SiL and her sister as we were supposed to go when it was my birthday but last week was the first time we were all free.

The weather here has been fair but the only day we have had any decent sunshine was last Wednesday as the rest of the week has been cloudy with an on shore breeze which has kept the temperature down.

Some years ago I had the operation on my hands for Carpul Tunnel but it has left me with a feeling as if my fingers have a tingling sensation in them all the time but it doesn't stop me from doing anything.

Hope everyone enjoys the pleasant weather and keeps well

  • Aftertnoon all,

Georgeg : Glad you enjoyed the inaugural dinner of the Adam Smith International Foundation. I remember learning about Adam Smith in Economics at school a very long time ago. Fish and chips at Anstruther sounds good to me. Sorry you have not had a lot of sunshine but at least the weather is fair.

Linda : Glad you enjoyed BBQ at friends house.

Everyone else thanks for the chat etc.

This morning we went to Barnwell and had a walk around the lakes before having a nice picnic. We were joined by the family of swans with 5 cygnets who settled down to preen no more that 10 feet away from where we were sitting. They must have stayed for about 30 mins before going back onto Mill Lake. Unfortunately did not have my camera but it was good just to enjoy the moment rather than photographing everything. Back home and having a break from gardening as it is so hot outside. Currently 26.3c. Better make the most of it as back to showers from tomorrow onwards.

  • Not long back from a walk on the beach at Chanonry. We saw just 1 Dolphin.........and 1 Wheaten Terrier. The owners were very surprised we recognised the breed. This is because it is a breed we have considered ourselves, but got no further than that. Anyway we have never seen the beach so busy..... usually a doz or so max but today there were many more people than that. End of school holidays on Tuesday.

  • Had a busy day, including enjoyable visit from our Eldest and Partner for lunch, and are now settling down to watch the Olympic Closing Ceremony.

GeorgeG -  You sound as if you have had a busy time lately:  sorry to hear that you have not had much sunshine.  Interesting about your experience with the carpal tunnel operation:  thanks for that information.  My Friend is recovering well but is all black & blue around her hand and arm.

dibnlib:   How lovely to see a Dolphin.  I couldnt have identified a Wheaten Terrier!

  • Good Morning:   Quiet on here last night!  The sun is trying to peep out here, between a very cloudy skyline.  Am tired after staying up late to watch the Olympic Closing Ceremony, which of course, overran - I wondered how all those thousands of people there would get home if the transport did not run late for them.  Had mixed feelings about it all:  it was quite a spectacle and started well with a great performance from dear old Timothy Spall as Churchill, and very clever scenery and effects:  however, it did turn into just another Pop Concert in the end;  I know its meant to be a party for the athletes to celebrate etc. and there were some great performances, but felt that there were not enough 'serious bits' and the solemn handing over of the Flag and the dimming of the Olympic Flame just seemed tacked onto it all like an afterthought.  A nice bit of light relief appreciated by all ages, was Eric Idle singing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" with some accompanying strange characters, showing the eccentricity of British humour.

So thats the end now, except for watching the Paralympics in a couple of weeks, which is now covered better by the media and is coming out as a huge event in itself.

Off to find something to put for you, for the Monday Smile:  back in a tick!

  • Monday Smiles this week:

Here are a couple of cartoons, sent to me by an old friend:   Apologies in advance for the language in the last one.

Alicat : Thanks for the black swan pics and the cygnet.

Today is dry so far but cloudy and rather warm. Been cleaning out the conservatory gutters this morning as not a lot going on today.

Took a couple of pics in the garden

    Gladioli:

    Peacock butterfly:

  • Hi Alan your welcome they were taken on my moblie phone as i didn't have camera with me

  • Good afternoon all and despite my best efforts I ony managed to keep with the WC for 3 days.  Despite saying I would not get hooked on the Olympics I did, and thoroughly enjoyed most of it.  I think my favourite event was the dressage set to music.  How elegant and beatiful this was to watch.  The horses were just wonderful and so graceful.   Also enjoyed the tennis and it was great to see Andy Murray win gold and a sliver medal.  I found the rhymic gymnastics good to watch as well, how supple and graceful all the competitors were.  Had hoped Tim would get a gold medal but he seemed overjoyed at his bronze and I am sure when the next Olympics are held he will have a good chance of doing even better.  Watched some of the closing ceremony but to me it did not seem as spectacular as the opening, as Lindybird  said it seemed to turn into a pop concert.  For all the worried and fears before it turned out really well and not even the traffic congestion was as bad as they thought.

Summer has left us today and we have had some very heavy showers merging into longer periods of rain.  Had a good day in the garden yesterday though all lawns cut and more weeding accomplished.  Don't know how OH had the energy to work in the garden all day as he went to a gig in London on Saturday night and did not return until 3.00am.  Needess to say he was shattered and we went to bed fairly early afer watching a bit of the closing ceremony.

My neice is having her first scan a week on Wednesday.  They will not want to know the sex of the baby preferring to have a surprise.  I think my sister is secretly hoping it will be a little girl but obviously a fine healthy baby of either sex will be warmly welcomed into the family.  The onkly slight concern we all have is whether the mumps Rhys has will have caused any problems.

dibnlib as you can see I watched the dressage set to music and found it very emotional, could not have been a better choise of music.  Lovely photos from Loch An Eilan, bringing back a wonderful memory of the perfect day I spent with you both.  :Love the pic of the sick dog, big cute factor there.

Alan thanks for the link to the release of the red kites, the answer you received from the Co-Op on the badger culls which made good reading, the link to the baby badgers and the photos of the gladioli and peacock butterfly.  tTat must be a rare event this summer (I say summer with tongue in cheek of course).  Sad to read about the loss of the cygnets thought.

Annette how nice to see you have been relacing or a change and no better way to feel relaxed than sitting by the sea.

Lindybird great pics from the flower show, must have been hard for the growers this year with all the rotten weather.  Good to read that you went to a barbeque, can't have been many of those this year.  Shame you did not see Mo's race live but what a runner.  He was right at the back when the race started and just magnificent to see him overtaking everyone.  They said his wife is expecting twins at any moment, must say she took a chance with all the excitement she must have felt.  Loved the Monday Smiles, thanks.

OG hope your wrist is OK and good to know you got out and about at the weekend.

diane thanks for the link to the meteors info.  Been thinking of you and wondering if you are still suffering from the extreme heat.

Limpy gorgeous pic of the wet bunny at Dyfi.

george g good o see a post from you and you have had a hectic social life but it sounds as though you enjoyed it.

ALICAT great pics taken from you phone.

I guess all the osprey nests are now going to be quitet with their imminent departure.  Not to fond of the tough love bit though, after being fed so well it is sad to see Alba and Cally yelling for fish.  Something I have never got used to so only tend to look in a couple of times a day now.

Enjoy the rest of the day all and take care.

Hi, Margo! The drought and the heatwave have ended in the last few days. We're now getting thunderstorms and cooler weather. Yay! Too late for the crops and other vegetation, but I'm so happy for the wildlife. There's even water flowing in the creek now, enough for the deer.

I'm happy to report that the new litter of baby bunnies are surviving. The mother has been feeding them at dusk, and she carefully replaces the white pebble on top of the nest.

Lindy, Margo and everyone: I'm so happy that you all enjoyed the Olympics and that it was so grand from start to finish. I'm also relieved that no violence occurred.

    Alan and Alicat: Lovely photos.
