It has been another normal day on the Loch Garten nest. The chicks continue to grow apace.

Time moves on apace. Today we had news of the first chicks of the year being ringed at Glaslyn. Only just over two days until the summer solstice.

At Loch Garten all continues to go well with people wondering where Odin is getting so many big fish from?

At 0155hr EJ took a short comfort break. When she came back she stood for over 40 minutes, during which time Wottadin (I guess) behaved aggressively towards her, maybe telling her to sit down?!

At 0510hr Odin landed, hoping to find a spare fish - nothing there, so he did a bit of nestorising and pottering, EJ complaining all the while, then he left:

Odin with FISH @ 0549hr !!!!!!!!!!!

So we know that Odin can catch a fish in half an hour-ish! And it's another lovely big fish.

The osplets queue up in an orderly manner.

The only blot on yesterday (apart from the evening rain) was Odin's messing up the nest, tidying things that didn't need to be tidied and making work for EJ and the osplets - still, it was good practice for the latter and they are both getting quite proficient.

Looks like EJ has had an unobserved (hence this time starting a new thread) but soggy night on the nest. Daycam came on about 0410 I think, a little later than usual. EJ is awake and wondering if Odin will keep up his recent habit of early morning FISH delivery, and has been looking about intently

A new day. Odin continues to be a great provider (though a daft supplier of nest material, sometimes) and EJ a wonderful mother, and the osplets are amazing us with their progress - they've been wriggling underneath EJ but have now settled.

The chicks are getting harder to tell apart now, and they are becoming more vocal and more adventurous. Also, They don't exactly fit under their mum anymore.

Another good day on the nest. There was some suspicion that EJ might have been getting acquainted with water again. Is she thinking of going fishing. Well it was 15 June 2012 that she went fishing.

A brilliant day yesterday - ie, no traumas or fights, osplets maturing and growing before our eyes - especially Wottadin, who's even venturing to the barricades.

At 0206hr, however, EJ was disturbed by an unseen intruder (sorry volume is so low, am awaiting a response from Creative Labs, grrr):

Limpy, Clare and Helen visited Scotland: The Photos!

Good evening all. A few people might have been aware that we've recently returned from a holiday spent on the spectacularly beautiful doorstep of Loch Garten, and it really is high time we started posting a few photos! I'll start with my best attempts from the Sunday:

This is my first ever photo of the LG nest, occupied! Wotadin had hatched only the day before and the Centre was still buzzing with the excitement! Lovely of Odin to pose for me.

After popping in to LG, we all piled down the road to pay a visit to the legendary Lady. The only snag was that this was the afternoon where she disappeared for four and a half hours! Yes, the magnificent Laddie pretty much stayed put for all that time.

First look at this nest. The surrounding countryside is just stunning.

We did see Lady when she eventually sneaked back to the nest. We also met the excellent Kate P, who (with the other team members) gave us a very friendly welcome. A lovely reserve.

On the Monday Helen and I spent a few exhausting but fun hours at the Landmark Forest Adventure Park. After this, we collected Limpy and headed back to LG, where we got a good view of both birds - lovely!

Odin loves perching here as well:

We happened to meet Birdie Num Num this afternoon, and it was lovely chatting to her - we later met again when we went to hear Roy Dennis's talk at the Boat of Garten Community Hall. For anyone who hasn't seen him, he's worth making the effort for.

I'm turning in now, so there's be more tomorrow.

It has been a serene night so far, and the day cam is on, but I don't know for how long it has been that way. The osplets are maturing quickly into their dark reptilian phase, where they look less cute than when just hatched.EJ just looked over her shoulder at us.
