Odin just brought in some bark and EJ immediately started to take small pieces of it and put them on her back. What is that all about please?

I think you will find that several places/organisations have muted the idea of hosting translocated birds. It is a massive undertaking requiring land with suitable habitat, licences to take the birds in the first place, suitable facilities to hold, monitor and care for them as chicks, a supply of fresh fish, and numerous people to maintain the watch whilst they are captive and later upon release. The 'Old' Rutland site which Tiger put up links to gives a good idea of what is involved.
ChloeB Tiger However I have made an intriguing discovery since I began writing this. They found the remains of a nest from 2003. Does this mean that there could have been chicks in 2003? (Another source of Monty?) So what's this about a possible 2003 nest Tiger? Ok found the reference to it since I posted this, had missed it before. Very interesting thought.

Incidentally for 2004 they report: "3 sites: (1) pair bred & fledged one young; (2) pair bred but failed when two young blown out of nest in June; (3) single bird summered"
They do not reveal locations (even at County level) due to sensitivity at the time; however we now know in 2004 Montgomery (Welshpool?) & Glaslyn were sites (1) & (2). The old Rutland site http://www.zen88810.zen.co.uk/ROspreys%20site/Transloc%20Results.htm states that 11(98) had been at Glaslyn for several years prior to the breeding attempt in 2004, so may have been the single bird mentioned in 2003.

I answered this CIRRUS on DU You couldn't have seen it The bark helps with the "bugs" in the nestt It came up at LotL when Lady was having a good go at a large piece of bark
Thank you PATILY - your mentioned LoTLs but I couldn't find it when I combed the pages. I thought it must be something to do with bugs. Thanks for the confirmation.
Sandy patily Wonder if there could be translocations to different areas of Scotland? I would doubt that there will be any translocations in Scotland, Patily, but I certainly wouldn't rule out further translocations to other parts of the UK.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Hi Rach, I suspect it's largely down to finance & funding; I think Rutland were lucky with Funding from Anglia water. Conservation bodies such as WWT & RSPB have other priorities; with Osprey's, whilst being loved by us, expanding naturally & being neither treatened globally or in this country.
I am saddened by the Laird not returning this year to Ladly and LoTLs - has it ever been known that a male deserts the female if a nest has failed any particular year?
I keep popping back to see peregrine on Charing X hospital The chicks are very vocal Are osprey chicks like that when newly hatched?

I have heard it said that it does happen but I have no examples that I can think of. Unless Green 7Y is sighted somewhere then I think he is probably in osprey heavem. However ospreys have turned up later than this like Henry in 2005 and S18 (Blue XD) in 2001.

Thank you TIGER . I always appreciate your responses

This reminds me, Tiger - did we ever get definite confirmation that XD is S18? And if so, was "black 8X" an error on the old Rutland site, or his original ring, since replaced? Don't remember seeing anything definite, but it gets difficult to keep up with all the threads at egg-laying time!

Let us say that we know that Blue XD is S18 but we have not been able to sort out the problems with that.
Just a thought with all the terrible weather at LG. Do you know of any ospreys abandoning their nest because of the weather conditions?
