An illustration of how wrong migrations can go - on a previous occasion when Deshar's flight was being discussed, I found this list of osprey sightings in the Azores, the islands everyone was hoping he would find. Ospreys don't breed on the Azores, so these birds must have come from either Europe or North America - and these were the lucky ones who found their way to land.
I see there has been a new sighting in the last few days on Flores, which is 1100 miles from mainland Portugal and 2000 from Cape Cod.
Thanks SueC. Very interesting. It's a pity Deshar did not find his way there.

Re above......on Autumnwatch last night we heard an observer telling Roy that an osprey had previously been seen, flying over the pass, which is high up :O) !! clutching a fish, just like having a packed lunch for the journey. That was news to me and not something that would have ever, even have crossed my mind.
