RUTLAND OSPREYS 2012

Hi Patily....as you posted that comment we were there watching it!  I'm so glad we stopped on our way home from the Birdfair.

did anybody say whether it was the male or female?

JUv on nest...a bit of preening, but mostly seems to be shouting for fish

So used to EN first thing in the morning that had a surprise at Dyfi to find Ceulan on nest eating breakfast and now there is a young 'un here waiting for theirs, I presume Wish I knew which one it is!

When we arrived it was the male.....later it was the female.  I can't remember the exact times.

I know there have been some issues with Rutland in the past but I find it really sad that this nest is treated like the poor relation.......the ospreys, whether adult or juvenile...are no less fascinating/precious than at other nests and yet so few post here

Patily : I think it is mainly due to the history of the other nests with LG being the number 1 attraction and LOTL being a close second. Also DYFI have done a great job with information and have an excellent website. As I live fairly close to Rutland Water I have a great affinity with the ospreys there and they are always the nest I look at first in the morning. There is a degree of secrecy at Rutland which I find hard to understand and I think that is the main problem there.

I think Glaslyn has the same problem.  It's a really accessible nest with terrific staff, but the signposting is very scanty, you can never get the webcam and the site isn't listed among the reserves.  It doesn't help that when you find their blog and make a comment, it disappears forever!  An RSPB man at Birdfair told us it wasn't making good sales but if they publicised that nest the way they've done with LG I suspect they wouldn't have a problem.

I have them both on my favourites bar Limpy but I've just tried it, and if you Google Dyfi Osprey Project  and Rutland Water Ospreys you are given the option to choose live streaming /webcam and you could add them to your favourites too When you get to the Dyfi home page too there's a choice "Our ospreys" and if you click on it a menu comes up and a top one is "Live streaming"
