Ok we have talked about a summary thread. Let us try to see how it might work.
It really is for just the critical events of the day like birds arriving at the nest in the morning and fish deliveries during the breeding season.
The purpose is that people who come in late in the day can quickly catch up with events without having to plough through the Daily Update thread.
So anyone who can update with a short summary of today is welcome to try their hand at this.
Look it as experimental and see how we go.
I do know that EJ began the day sitting on a tree standing on a large fish...well it wouldn't be small would it?
OK Tiger, will have a go although not always been on hand but have looked back.
Morning - 6.24 approx, is seen in tree with remains of fish
Morning - 7.30 approx, still seen in tree with fish
Morning - 9.40 seen on nest again with the remains of that fish.
Afternoon/early evening - visits to the nest, bringing in sticks from time to time/ staying on nest for long and short periods - gazing into the distance for Odin
Also seemed to spend some time on the tree.
Late evening - now in her roosting tree.
Hope that is something like what you suggest, Tiger.
Well here's my go at summerising events at LG for Tuesday 27th of March 2012.
I'll start the day's summary pre-dawn at 5.51 AM, where EJ is pictured on the wide-view cam, perched on a nearby tree. She likely roosted there through the night.
6.27 AM: Daylight cams are switched on.
6.32AM: EJ is spotted on the branch she perched on the previous night with a fish. This turns out to be the remains of the massive fish she caught the previous evening. The huge breakfast means EJ is a bit later ariiving on the nest.
9.40 AM: After flying off a massive breakfast, EJ returns to her nest. Amazingly she still has some of the massive fish!
10.37 AM: EJ is pictured in another nearby tree, still with the remains of last nights boat... sorry I mean fish.
12.22 PM A picture is posted (taken at 12.19 PM) of EJ perched on a lookout branch. Obviously scanning the area for other Ospreys as she awaits the return of Odin.
1.14 PM: EJ is pictured on the branch enjoying a brief snooze in the Loch Garten sunshine.
2.11 PM: By this time she is now using her amazing eyes with highly powerful vision to scan the skies.
2.17 PM: EJ briefly flies back to the nest before flying back to the lookout tree.
2.59 PM: EJ is pictured back on her nest. Looking great in the glorious sunshine. Her watchful eyes look out ovewr her domain.
3.04 PM: EJ flies off.
3.06 PM: She is back on the nest. Her eyes stare at the camera. Not just any stare but an EJ Stare.
3.31 PM: EJ is pictured, still on the nest but not so much staring at the camera but rather looking deep in thought.
4.58 PM: EJ who at this point was perched on a tree has flown off. Perhaps to see off a Buzzard that was calling.
4.58 PM: She is back on the nest with a large stick, continuing the nestoration which started when she arrived back on the 21st of March.
5.12 PM: EJ is on her nest, Patiently she waits for Odin to complete his roughly 3000 miles journey from his winter home in western Africa and return to Scotland to be with her.
5.18 PM: She flies off, calling into the late afternoon sunlight.
5.19 PM: EJ is pictured on the wide-view cam. She is a quite stunning silhouette.
6.09 PM: She has another lookout for Odin. This time from the nest.
6.15 PM: A picture of EJ on the nest shows that she has started her moult.
6.24 PM: EJ flies off calling. Her calls continue into the distance.
6.47 PM: EJ is pictured posting. Sorry I mean standing on the tall post at the nest. Oviously using it as a vantage point.
7.38 PM: She lowers to the nest cup, and then flies off.
7.38 PM: EJ is back on the tree she was last perched on. She continues to be a brillaint silhouette in the evening sunshine.
8.37 PM: We are now on night vision pictures and finish off the day with a rather spooky looking pictures of EJ on the wide-view cam, as the lichen looks like a ghostly face on the tree she perches on.
And so we end EJ's day of the 27th of March 2012. Huge massive heaps of thanks are due to everyone who posted into the Daily Update for the 27th of March 2012 for making this timeline possible.
Congratulations Paul/Heron. An excellent summary of 27 March 2012
Thanks to you both for your summaries. A difficult job, when you get down to it.
Excellent, Paul. More detailed than mine, just kept it short as much was the same throughout the day. Keep it up though.
Sorry, don't mean to be negative on your summary Paul. Much prefer yours, that's what I should have said.
I posted a small comment on DU - not the thing to do
I think Heron's summary is very good but it's a lot of work. Lynette may have a more practical view, just a few more times mentioned needed.
May I THANK both Lynette and Heron on a Herculean task on both accounts.
TIGER has started this thread for the people who come in from work or any whereabouts who would like a summary of the day without having to crawl through Daily Update hundreds of posts to find important information. I for one am one of them people.
TIGER has mentioned the type of information required and trust this site will not be abused by general information what is happening about the nest - That is Daily Update.
If an intruder is seen on the nest this again is an important factor especially if identified.
Once again without any preference I would like to Thank Heron77 and Lynette on what is a Herculean task and both posts are very much appreciated.
Also Thank You TIGER for starting this thread.
Good morning all and many thanks to Lynette and Heron for the work you have done to keep us all up together with happenings on the nest. This will be ideal even for me as I am not logged in the whole of the day. A good idea Tiger and thanks for starting this thread.
Here goes with todays summary; What a day it has been with a visiting osprey identified now as XD Blue being amorous with EJ and EJ being likewise with him.
6/29am - EJ reported back on the nest - stayed around for a bit and was in her tree at about 6.56am then back to nest around 7.14am
From your accounts she had been on and off the nest for most of the early part of the morning
Around 11.07am EJ was seen to be mantling, another osprey was around.
According to the wide view cam at about 11.08am another osprey had landed on the nest but EJ wasn't kicking up a fuss
Shortly afterwards he attempted to mate with EJ and this went on for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon with EJ accepting him. At times mating failed but at other times it succeeded.
Around 5.15pm EJ returned to the nest alone
6.01pm Mary GK posted NEW BLOG. It seems Roy Dennis had got back to Richard and confirmed it as XD Blue who had a nest not too far away but apparently it had broken up and Roy has said that it will be rebuilt and so tempt this fella back as he is the partner of Green J.
19.20pm EJ seen on the nest with a fish and a sky dance going on by displaying male!!!!!
19.24pm - two ospreys on the nest and two fish (both EJ and the male)
It seems that she goes fishing early evening for supper and then retreats to her tree to eat.
7.55pm. - Blue XD is seen on the nest
7.59pm - EJ returns and another mating attempt happens and before this as reported by Heron77 Blue XD was doing some nest cup scraping.
8.09 - Moffer recorded EJ also on the nest with her fish.
Its been a very interesting day and have attempted to give the highlights but may have missed something off.
Edit - did miss something off and that is that Blue XD kept bringing in sticks and at one time a huge one.
One thing for certain, tomorrow won't be dull, we await with baited breath to see what happens.
Well Done Lynnette!
Well Done Lynnette!
A brilliant summary, Lynette, and very well thought through. Absolutely ospreytastic :-)
No not that I can think of Lynnette ~ its a mammoth task to sit and decide what is relevant and what is not, dont think Id know where to begin, so good of you to take it on.
