Headless. But good, nevertheless.

Well, about time! EJ lost no time in seizing it, it was a good-sized tail-end, - better than yesterday's.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Good morning all just a quick post to say thanks for the pics, videos and commentary. Was so worried for EJ when I read she had only a small part of a fish yesterday but logged on in time to hear her calling and thought Odin was in her sights and low and behold caught the fish delivery. I hope he will bring another one in later today. My osprey viewing time is virtually nil this weekend so lots to catch up with on Tuesday when I will have more time to catch up with all the threads.

Great. Odin has produced a fish at last. I hope this is a two fish day. Thank you
A bit careless of EJ She carried that away in her beak. Hope she didn't let it sliup.
It looks as if it was quite a big fish. Seems like you been to the fish farm again Odin.
Interestingly Roy Dennis reported about Red 8T's fishing habits about three weeks ago
14 April 2012
Red 8T settled down staight away at his nest site with last year's mate with fishing flights to Loch an Eilean, Loch Alvie, River Feshie but mainly at Rothiemurchus Fishery
Seems like Red 8T mostly takes the lazy option. No great surprise there.

It's not exactly lazy - I would think it makes good sense for any species of bird to go after the easier option. It saves time and energy.
Ooh, we've just had our friendly neighbourhood kestrel in the garden - no wonder everything had disappeared except the crow!

Well Rothiemurchus fish farm has a benign attitude to ospreys. Not all fish farms are the same. There is a fish fam in Cuba where almost every osprey known to go near it gets shot.
patily Thanks for doing the summary MOFFER That's the 2nd time you've "rescued" us

It's disappointing when I get up and see that no one has done it. I started to ask if anyone wanted to do it, but I felt like I was coming over bossy, so I stopped. I think that a rota or some sort of system could be implemented, so that everyone that wishes can take a turn without feeling like they are stepping on anyones toes. I don't mind doing it, but I don't want to do it all the time. One for Tiger to sort out I think.
I was wondering about some kind of rota but there my need to be some kind of contingency plan for a person may not be able to do it on THEIR DESIGNATED DAY

EJ and a Great Tit on the edge of the nest.
Poor old Odin. If he'd brought EJ a fish earlier he could have sat on the nest while it was still dry!
Tiger, I think also for Rothiemurchus some of the income is gained from charging photographers to sit there and photograph. I think it is a system that suits all parties to their best advantage. The Ospreys probably don't take enough fish to damage their income but enough to feed their families and thevfishery get extra income from people paying to take photos. Outside ofthe hours that Mary quoted the other day it is actually very expensive to sit there with your camera - at least it was last year when I enquired and I believe the price has risen this year.
Lmac I wonder if Odin just can't be bothered fishing this year or is saving himself for his 6 - 9 a day stint once the chicks arrive. I did hear that fish numbers in the fisheries and rivers are down this year - so it may be tough fishing conditions this year.
