As expected, August cleared the nest at Loch Garten and others around the countryside as well, leaving us all with severe cases of Empty Nest Syndrome. As we end the month, EJ and Oden are on their unknown ways to Africa. Caledonia and Alba are providing many thrills as we watch their tracked progress. Surprise, Bynack’s transmitter has made contact once again
Looking into September, we hope to hear more from Bynack and that speculation will become known fact, which will tell us without a doubt that he is still alive and well. We will continue to follow Alba and Cally and others to their winter homes.
Our first group StreetWalk has been planned for York with B&B as Tour Guide. And already the first Music Night of 2012 has been scheduled.
So while you are enjoying this lovely autumn weather and colors, stop by to take a peek in at the Gabfest room. You just might want to stay and chat a while, for you will find the fireplace already lighted with a wee fire. Over the open fire hangs a gleaming copper kettle, just bubbling over with ideas to cheer us thru a long cold dark winter. And, as with our OSPREYS, it is often the unexpected that is the most exciting. For we never know who or what is coming next at The Gabfest.
Quick MUSIC NIGHT By Popular Demand
THEME: Music to Make You SMILE
WHEN: Saturday, September 1st, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
SELF-DIRECTED or leader by popular demand.
Mornin" Folks, looks like we already had a mini-music nite last night. Is the regularly scheduled one still on for this evening.?
JUNE Thanks for the new thread. What a really lovely introduction to the month.....its like poetry I especially like the copper kettle "bubbling over with ideas".
I have everything crossed that dear Bynack IS alive and well.....and I hope next year, or the one after, we discover the same about our lovely Tore when she returns.
I don't really understand what the music night involves!
Very colourful June.

Good Morning JUNE and to all at GABFEST.
JUNE - What a wonerful illustrated September introduction. Your words are as they always are but I do like your illustration.
September where I live is as you describe a wonder of colours the leaves appear as your illustration and my mountains bathed in purple. However we have already received a temperature of minus 2 celcius Thursday night/Friday morning in The Highlands.
Many Ospreys are still around and will remain so through September but the numbers will go down - A walk through Spey Valley - you actually see more ospreys in the air around the Spey probably juveniles getting ready to leave and their fathers staying behind until they are ready. Remember Alba and Caledonia were early birds.
Good morning everyone...
Thanks June, a lovely opening to the new month, when I joined last year, The Gab was hitting around 700 posts per month, now we are regularly going through the 2,000 post mark.
Patily, come along and join in, you will see how it works and even if you are not "into" music, you will have a laugh.
Sadly though I will miss out on this one unless it is still going pretty late on.
All for one and one for all.
JUNE and ALL - Because the Mini Music Night was sprung on us quick it appears key members may not be available - I like the Theme and did so when it was suggested by another member. However just had a thought would it be better to keep this for a planned night as we used to last season - I would not like this theme to be lost. It appears BJ and MARY and MYSELF would be dissappointed to loose this one.
I leave this to the forum - if a few people are around they could have a sing song like last night - What do others think.
JUNE I did like your announcements well in advance and I do know many posters including me spent a good week preparing our songs, illustrations and wee stories (Although fun we did take these seriously and they were tremendous nights well prepared by your good self and well directed who ever that was mainly your self until you delegated :):):) (remember me as director - SLOW DOWN/SLOW DOWN) - What do others think.
I am contemplating a game of golf at spey valley (Golfing Son dependent) and an Osprey watch at the same time so not sure when I may be back.
Keith,
I agree, it would be a shame to use such a good theme when not everyone, that would like to, can come to the party.
The announcments or warnings (depending on ones view) from June are great and a nice early notice gives those that like to prepare fair and advanced notice.
Over to you Gabbers...
Enjoy the Golf Keith. The mighty SONS of the Rock are at our nearest rivals today... Directly across the Clyde to Greenock..(Morton)
BJ - You need a win desperately - I now always look for your result - You could be joining Rangers next season - one up/one down.
JAG and KEITH, I conceded to your "popular DEMAND" of a themed music night BEFORE StreetWalk and now you are not satisfied with it. Lesson learned?
Sometimes PATIENCE is a greater virtue than demand. Enthusiasm is a great and wonderful and even necessary ingredient, but it does take TIME to plan a Great Music Night. To select a good date when those can be present who want to be there,, For participants to think of and look up, and prepare good music, appropriate to the theme, etc.
.Actually, what happened last night was very much what I had in mind for tonight. Apparently enthusiasm was so great that it bubbled over into a spontaneous mini-music night and a great time was had by all. Another wonderful Gabfest moment!
FIXING our present problem is easy enough. I will simply retrieve the theme and save it for a properly planned event later. As to tonight anyone who wishes to post music of course may do so, but i suspect our participants simply chose their own time and held the quickly postef event last night instead of at the posted time of tonight.. CHAOS??? On the Gabfest??? You bet!!!
Good morning everyone :-) JUNE what a lovely picture and introduction to September. It made me feel like new beginnings, rather than ''it's all over now''!
B&B you mustn't worry about the tour guide thing, I know you will succeed and thank you for the preparation you're putting into it. Even if we all get lost, that will just add to the fun!
I would have missed the music night but perhaps not, if it's at a later date - sounds like a great laugh:-)
Here's to NEW BEGINNINGS.....:-)))
PATILY, Thanks for your kind words about the introduction. Glad you enjoyed it. As to Music night stay tuned as we discuss it and you will soon get the idea. Mostly it involves YouTube.
We plan ahead, select a theme, discuss and select a date & time when the most people who want to participate can be there. Then participants spend some time remembering songs appropriate to the theme, look them up on YOUTUBE, then more time selecting the version we like best. Then on THE NIGHT we take turns presenting our selections for others to play and hear., often with reasons for our selections. We are an emotional bunch and it is just as well to bring the tissues, for many a real tear has slid down our cheeks as the evenings proceed. You can see from the recent requests to get started that we do love our music nights.

There was also a music night V
I think that was the last one but I am not sure.
Good morning, MIMS, and ALL. Seems my instincts were correct in deserting the traditional fall colors of oranges and golden browns for the unique wine & blue of the selected picture. Besides, it was a wee bit blurred & that and the intense colors reminded me of a stained glass window. Don't you think there is something almost sacred about a colorful autumn scene, something signefying a time of rest, a time of quiet unseen growth taking place undergound. Indeed as Mims says a new beginning has already begun.
Definitely the right choice of colours, JUNE - rich and vibrant. You had me fooled - I thought it WAS a stained glass window, but your post prompted me to examine it more carefully and......gosh. What a good effect!
You've all caught me out before with Oscar and I don't mind admitting this, hope you will laugh with me......he came through on my mobile, so the picture was a tad small. I was shocked, and kept examining it lol. Could this be a different, perhaps, tropical species of Osprey?? The plumage was so neat, so perfect in every way, and that black head was stunning....the colours so vibrant.....anyway, after about 3 days I got on the laptop and examined him properly. But then came the double edged sword. Do I continue kidding myself? It was soooo tempting lol. But the greatest thing of all is we know he will be safe on migration as he and Heather will not wander too far, for the time being at least. LOL.
