I spent today in the Orleans Forest and at L'Etang du Ravoir . The three youngsters are now ringed and I woud say that they are heavier than average. It was easy to see them exercising, ready to fledge, although I could only see two doing this. I also saw the adults flying in to the nest with a fish...

Goings on at l'Etang du Ravoir on Saturday 17th. Saturday March 17: `' 8Z'' is back! It was a fortuitous time for him to return because of the evidence that we see, another suitor was not going to be long in taking his place together with `' 02''… Towards 14H50 indeed...

Sue , it is great the way they identified orange 'the male', on his migration. 'Saturday March 17: `' 8Z'' is back!' report is rather garbled in english, I may have time later to unpick it to make sense.

As of 16th, it is reported that the Forest of Orleans is now at 20 ospreys present. The reports are difficult to translate due to the style in which they are written. I had a go at the previous one which in the end, turned out too garbled and would only have confused you. The 16th goes like this with...

Tiger : Here is a PDF document, from the source of Forest of Orleans information, the ONF (the equivalent of our Forestery Commmision). Is says 58% of the Balbuzards in the 'Central' region of France in 2009, were there. That means 58% of 29 breeding pairs and 47 fledged young, that were counted...

Tiger and jsb Re your queries about the Etang du Ravoir in the Foret d'Orleans: the pair who have occupied the observatory nest in recent years, 8Z and 02, are NOT back yet. A pair at a nearby nest, 8R and 8V , who are usually early, arrived back last week there has also been an unringed...

News comes today of what may become two new nests this year in the shape of two new platforms that were erected in France in February. They are in the Medoc region, to the north of Bordeaux, just a few kilometres to the west of the sturgeon caviar farm, where Rothes hangs out. They are sited on the spring...

An Osprey rescue in France. Link is posted in French, as the Google translation is not good English. Story is a starving osprey found a fish farm, but got caught up in the trout nets and damaged its wings, was rescued and cared for at some expense to the rescuers, who rehabilitated it, prior to a planned...

The Loire Forests – Osprey Heartland in Mainland France Ospreys used to be persecuted just as much in France as in Britain. By the first half of the 20 th century they were a rare sight, and were not believed to nest at all on the French mainland after the Second World War. This changed in the...
