Just when I thought the snow had gone...
Kim
It comes back and blankets the reserve again! Hopefully the snow shouldn't last for long this time. Finger crossed. I thought things were almost starting to get back to normal: at the weekend the whole car park was finally free of snow making it the most accessible it has been in the past two...

January Snow
Kim
Afternoons are slowly stretching out and love is in air with wigeon and mallard busy with courtship displays. The nest boxes have been emptied of last years nests ready to welcome new occupants shortly – but it is still very much winter. The reserve is blanketed in snow and the numerous water bodies...

A cold start to November
Kim
Although it's rainy and miserable today, yesterday (1st Nov) gave me a real sense of the start of winter. The sun was out and the landscape around the reserve was sprinkled with a light dusting of frost. The car was completely frosted over and took a good 15 minutes to deforst before we could start...

September starts with some Sun (finally!)
Kim
The last few days have felt more like summer than the whole of July and August put together! The sun has been shinning over Kinnordy and the wildlife has responded in appreciation of the much missed summer. As a blog hasn't been written for a over a month, there is quite alot to catch up on. So...

Autumn Time at Kinnordy
Kim
You can tell it's autumn time again here at Kinnordy; fallen leaves litter the paths and any leaves left on the trees have started to turn. It makes a beautiful scene from the hides and along the paths, seeing all those red and golden tones. What's even better is that now some of the willow scrub...

Breeding season comes to a close...

What a summer it's turning out to be - not that you'd think it has been summer recently with our lovely Scottish weather! Half the time, the volunteers and myself are still wrapped up in our winter gear and waterproofs thanks to all the wind and rain! The rain hasn't helped much with the...

The sun shines on Kinnordy
Kim
What a beautiful sunny day we had at the reserve today! Is this the start of summer? I hope so :) The osprey and the female marsh harrier were both out for awhile enjoying the sun too. The osprey managed to catch a couple of fish while at the loch. It looks like we now have two mute swan families...

Marsh Harrier Watch 29/05/2011
Kim
Yesterdays first ever "Marsh Harrier Watch" was a great success. Lots of people managed to find them time to come and were amazed to see the male marsh harrier when he decided to make an appearence. I've never seen some many people in the Gullery hide, but luckily that didn't put...
