Just a quick update this morning to make up for the lack of news yesterday (the internet was broken in Scotland apparently).
Most of the day was taken up with routine cleaning tasks etc., so there wasn't much in the way of birds to report, but the team did make an early start to count the Whooper Swans as it seemed like there had been a lot on the reserve in recent days. This turned out to be a fair summary, as birds leaving the roost ended up totalling 870 - only 31 short of the record count. There also seems to be plenty of Pink-foot around at the moment, although numbers are probably still down on the expected amount of this time of year.
No Waxwings on the apples yet (although I saw plenty at home!) but at least the Blackbirds and Jackdaws are enjoying them. Great Spotted Woodpecker is also now regular in the garden again, with at least a couple of birds coming to the peanut feeders.
There'll hopefully be more to report later today...
