Sandwich Terns and Blackheaded Gulls

Spotted this pair of Sandwich Terns amongst Blackheaded Gulls on island in front of visitor centre today.

The Terns and Gulls have very similar plumage colouring.

Also saw an Osprey diving but was just too far away over loch to get a photo.........next time !

Mallard from Fen Hide

Got a great close-up view of this drake, they really are a handsome bird.

Also heard a Water Rail calling from the reed bed to the left of Fen hide, a first for me.

Waited to see if I could get some footage but no luck.

Iceland Gull (5/2/12)

was surprised to come across this adult Iceland Gull this afternoon; in this digiscoped pic it is the central bird and it was apparently the first seen on the reserve for a couple of years. It flew off in a westerly direction after half an hour or so.

This Rough Legged Buzzard provided a nice leaving present for Kathryn and Dominic, possibly attracted by the smells coming from the leaving do barbecue !
