This is a great golden digger wasp I think. Took photo in Fuerteventura during November 2011

Looked scary but apparently they do not sting and are a popular food for birds.

This "family" of ducks have entered an almost cult status at the reserve. Starting with an unbelievable 27 (although we are as yet unsure if that is one two or more families together), Their numbers have dropped a little now...but still impressive. There have been several blog posts about them over Spring on the Lochwinnoch reserve page.
