Well the Little Egret that was spotted a couple of weeks ago at the reserve is still around and has been enjoying hanging around in the water just outside the Visitor Centre. I was lucky enough to see it in flight on Thursday just behind the workshops! That's not the only bright white bird that's showing itself on the reserve at the moment either, there have also been regular recent sightings of the leucisitc barnacle goose too! Nice to see it back again!
After saying about how lovely the weather has been in my last blog, I'm afraid I spoke too soon as the last couple of days have returned to the wet, windy and wild weather we've been regularly experiencing over the last couple of months! However despite the bad weather and cloudy skies we had a good turn out for our Star Gazing event last night with 30 people joining members of the Dumfries Astronomy Society to learn more about the stars. Even though the weather meant people couldn't go out to actually look at the stars the Society brought along some videos and gave a good talk. We hope to repeat this event again soon, so watch this space and keep your fingers crossed for nicer weather!!
Just a reminder that next weekend is our annual Big Garden Birdwatch! We hope to encourage even more people to take part already, all you need to do is spend an hour at some point over the weekend watching the birds that visit your garden. Remember to only count the maximum birds that you see at one time. You can submit your results on our Big Garden Birdwatch web page. Just go to our main website www.rspb.org.uk to find out more!
