Well fingers crossed we've managed to avoid the snow that has been effecting the rest of the country, however today we have been plagued by a thick fog that has really effected visibility on the reserve.  However the geese didn't diappoint, rising out of the mist and entertaining the few visitors that braved the weather with their constant calls, often compared to the yapping of a small dog!  In fact on a number of occasions it was this sound that you heard first before you saw them through the fog!

There were also a number of shelduck braving the cold on the beach, feeding on the sandflats.  We hope the mist will clear tomorrow as part of the appeal of Mersehead is the amazing landscapes that surround us, from the protective shelter of Criffel to the enormity of the beach as it spreads out almost endlessly towards the Lake District fells.

Despite the poor weather I still caught a glimpse of a treecreeper as it made its way up one of our trees on the Coastal trail, and I also had a close encounter with a hare this evening as I drove back onto the reserve, the first one I've seen this year, always a pleasure to see!

Just a reminder, if you are looking for free things to do with kids this Half Term then why not come along to our "Art Attack events" running 13th-19th February in our Visitor Centre 11-4pm.  There'll be a mixture of arty activities for kids to do.
