According to a recent facebook post on our Mersehead facebook page a red breasted goose was spotted today hanging out with a flock of barnacle geese in a field at Loaningfoot near Dumfries! Definitely worth keeping an eye out if you are passing that way.
Since the mist has risen over the last couple of days we have had some fantastic signs of spring appearing! Blue skies, snowdrops and even daffodils on the Solway Coast road near Caulkerbush!
Whilst visiting Mersehead why not visit the nearby SWT Solway Coast reserve , it gives great views over the reserve and a short walk down through the woodland rewards you with a fabulous natural stone archway. Whilst walking there yesterday I saw some long tailed tits and a red squirrel! Parking is a little tricky on the A710, but there are a couple of safe laybys to park in and it is well worth a visit whilst nearby.
My pal and I spotted this one in Lancashire November 2010
