Sunday 18th December, this coming Sunday.
This will be the first of our annual Winter Warmer Walks and we're combining it with the regular Bird Watching for Beginners walk. Meet in our car park at 10 am and set off around the reserve for an instructional stroll or just take some exercise, it doesn't matter. What does matter though is the refreshments afterwards in the POD. Warm festive punch, mince pies and more seasonal goodies await those of you who make it back.
What better way is there to start the final week countdown to Christmas.
Talking of Christmas, for the first time this year we will be having a guided walk on Boxing Day morning. This is a chance to work off the excesses of the day before and enjoy the peace and quiet found on the reserve. Come along for a 10.30am strart from our car park. You know it makes sense.
And another thing, New Year's Day. How many of you have woken up a little weary, a little hungover perhaps or even a little full after a week of merriment? Time to break out the walking gear, put your new scarf and gloves on and get yourself down here to enjoy a peaceful stroll around Middleton lakes. Meet at 2pm (we're being kind to you) and walk alongside our volunteer walk leaders (John & Sue), identifying ducks, geese and other flying objects. You could give your 'year List' a big first day boost!
The most complaints we've had since we opened have been about the state of the roadway along the main thoroughfare from our main entrance off Bodymoor Heath Lane. In particular the road surface or lack of it found just beyond our inner gateway.
GOOD NEWS!
Our hardy volunteers braved almost sub-zero temperatures to re-distribute 10 tonnes of road planings and ensure a smooth surface to what was a notorious stretch of track. No longer will our cars be subjected to conditions more usually found on a 4-wheel drive test course. (I'm not sure whether Land Rover have been sneeking over here at night?)
This will be great news to everyone who uses our main entrance and let's hope any bad weather doesn't wash their work away!
Well done team!
